In game lag with coop session
Hi, i purchased overcooked 2 for me and my girlfriend. Since we are under quarantine due coronavirus this is a nice game to play in coop while in our houses.

My problem is about latency, its too much and the game is totally unplayable.
Our connetions are free of latency, our speedtest have near 20 ping, more than 30mbps in download and more than 10mbps in upload

What can be the cause? is the connection direct between our computers or it must transit over some of Team17's servers and they are full of traffic?

do you know any way to fix this or to simulate a "lan" game?

thank you!

Same with me and my girlfriend. It was playable before and now the lag is so severe that we were teleporting. :( Really hope there is a fix.

Same here. Bought the game with three friends and the game is totally unplayable due to lag. Even tho we all have more than sufficient internet speeds.

I was about to comment the same thing. The online mode has been frustrating to play. :(

Ya'll need a strong host player. Try swapping P1 position amongst the players you have and find the person who has the best internet.

Thank you for your suggestion, but as i told in my initial message we both have a good connection. We also tried to swap, with always the same result.

Since lot of other people are telling us they have the same issue i think the real problem is on team17's side and that our computer cannot make a direct connection between them (P2P), but they both connect on team17's servers as a gateway to establish a connection. And my fear is that those servers are just not enough for this new flow of players.
Who could expect such a growth for a 2 years old game after all? I just hope to have some official answer about this!

Yeah I am having the same issue, it's been going on for a few days now but it isn't a problem sometimes. Usually it has been fine but every other time we try to play it becomes unplayable for a random amount of time. I keep teleporting around and lagging, unable to interact with my ingredients or anything else in the environment. My internet connection is great and so is my friends', and this has worked before for an extended amount of time. We're currently on new game + with no problems appearing before like a week ago at least. Would love a fix especially now with the increased time for playing the game.

SO MUCH LAG IN COOP SESSION
Hello everyone,

I bought this game a few days ago to play with my friend. First session , we played for hours without any problems.

But since the day after, we can no longer play a coop game without encountering a lag, except for the one who hosts the session.

I point out that we have no problem with internet connection each. And we tried different solutions, none of which worked. Currently, we are disgusted because we can no longer play this game....

I hope there will be a fix soon PLEASE !

i solved my issue!
For the records.. overcooked TRY to establish a p2p connection (so a direct connection between the computer that are playing), but if for any technical reason this connection cannot be established it transit over some team17's servers. Those servers can be oberated of traffic and can produce this lag issue

i found that the reason that was preventing the p2p connection was my ISP. Technically i was in NAT3, i had to pay a service over my ISP to have a public static ip that also moved me on NAT2.
With NAT2 (or NAT1 but thats an overkill) the p2p connection can be established.
Other than that a firewall, a proxy, a VPN can be the cause (not my case)

Thank you all, and thank you to Team17's support (via mail, you can find official support only over the official site) that got me over the right direction

Hey all,

Thank you very much for your reports - for console game owners, please do follow AlexanderPD advice, which consists of making sure that your NAT settings are configurated correctly.

As for Steam users, we use Steam's own servers for the online multiplayer, so could be an issue with the current concurrency. Please do keep us updated if you are still having latency issues, how frequent if you see a pattern on what times this is happening (please include your location due to time differences).

Team17 Support

I also have this issue from time to time regardless of my internet speed. I play the public arcade lobbies on Steam. It happens more often in the middle of the night (midnight - 6am CST)

Hey Workaholic24_7,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

If it's only happening during certain times it may be due to your network or just the concurrency at those times of playing.

To ensure that you have the best connection, can you please follow the steps in this article[team17.helpshift.com], and reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to open your NAT?

We hope this helps!

Regards,
Team17 Support
