Upgrading...as a gift
Hi all,

I purchased V2 way back when and never really got into it myself. But one day my Dad was over and gave it a go and fell in love with it. He's since clocked about 400-500 hours on each title. He used to like all sorts of games from FPS titles to RTS...Not anymore. He loves SE

Anyway, I have been sharing my library with his account all these years so he can still access V2 when he's not playing 3 and 4. My question is, can I purchase the upgrade for £6.99 for him and would he be able to download the remastered version on his account? I noticed there is an option to purchase the upgrade as a gift but I have no idea what happens at the end of the payment process.

I want him to have this new version but I don't really want to pay the full price when he already has access to the now vanilla version, ya know? He's retired and I don't think he'd be keen to shed out on a title that's not a new iteration.

Thanks for any help :)

Purchase as gift, choose your dad as the person your gifting it to. He will receive it, and has a choice to accept it. He will know he has received it as a notification under gifts, The little green message notifier.

You can then go to your inventory, and under the "more" option you can access "view gift history" and see if he has taken it

Thank you. I just need clarification if I can do this with the upgrade option rather than buying the game again.

Ta :)

Can you clarify, please, does your dad have his own Steam account?

Yes, he said so.

Yes that's right.

However, just to clarify, I own V2 and he owns the rest. He plays V2 (vanilla) through family sharing on Steam.

I have the option to upgrade for myself or buy that as a gift. I have no idea what buying the upgrade as a gift will do if I go through with the purchase.

Then buy the UPGRADE for Yourself and then share it with your dad as well as V2 otherwise he won't be able to do anything with that upgrade. This upgrade has a DLC which checks presence of original game.
Summarizing, buy a separate game for your dad as a gift or buy an upgrade for your account and then share it with your dad
