Modding?
Does anyone here have any interest in modding? There has been some activity on Nexus Mods regarding some new Cross Rays mods, as well as a discord dedicated to the topic.

It's all done in quite old school way and there is no manager or easier way to do this.
More importantly they are just replacing the in-game My Characters image and voice. You gotta need something better than ChatGPT to actually reverse engineer the source code and find a way to add actual custom slots.

nothing wrong with doing things in an old school way, "if it works, it works" as they say.
This is how modding was done back when II started making mods in 2006 for HoTD2 and RE4 (Ubisoft release), replacing the files with custom files and releasing them in an archive so that people could just drag and drop into their game folder.

as seen with this mod I released for Cross Rays not that long ago.

I would like to point out that the "UC Project" mods do not replace the "My Character" stuff, they actually replace the "Original Generation" characters such as Sys Mitville and others, for a more cohesive integration with the game. This includes having custom skills and stats that are based on their Genesis appearance, rather than using the default character information.

I also want to point out that we have been experimenting with replacing Mobile suits & have a way of completely replacing attack animations and stats/skills. Going as far as having an actual functional RX-78=2 in the game, albeit with some issues that will get sorted out in the future.

Images of the RX-78 in game, done by "DarkHeroesGaming" as part of the UC Project.

As far as "Mod Managers" go, I believe Nexus Mod Manager works with Cross Rays, although I havnt tried it myself.

Work has been done on documenting and reverse engineering the game files, mainly through mechbay and its fork.

Mechbay hasnt been updated in a few years but its research is invaluable

This is the fork of Mechbay, which has seen updates less than a year ago.

I have done some documenting of the audio files, figuring out "what" file plays "when" and how the abbreviations on each sound clip factor in, which is why the above mods sound vaguely natural rather than being a mish mash of audio clips ie: that "Gundam Wing Dub" mod from 2019ish.

There are also programs and documentation in chinese that are worth looking through.

As I have just learned through messing with the data files, the game is coded in lua...

This is coding for one of the missions, easily editable.

Someone could straight up make their own missions for this game as long as they know lua scripting!
