What you basically do is send underleveled/unused team members and suits on "away" missions that have a chance to award stuff(abilities, ms suits, equipment, etc), in addition to experience and money. While those pilots and units are on a dispatch mission, you cannot use them in regular missions until they return. You have no control over the "away" team other than configuring the team for the highest success %(higher chance of getting something) as well as using boosters to reduce the time taken to return.
We are not sure what exactly those daily dispatches will award but you can tell what they could possibly give by looking at the icons for each one.
Let's take the first screenshot in the following as an example:
https://www.rpgsite.net/news/8902-sd-gundam-g-generation-cross-rays-new-feature-group-dispatch-explained
Starting from left, the first one(gundam mech head) represents possible ms suit reward. The second(screws) represent possible equipment reward. The third represents possible pilot ability reward. The final one(some kind of pda) refers to dispatch mission boosters that can cut the time needed to complete them.
There is no risk(pilots can't be killed, ms suits can't be destroyed) to them. Even if you "fail" them, they still give you experience and points. So use them regularly to train up underleveled pilots and suits.
Dispatch missions for the season pass dlcs work differently. There are based on a CUMULATIVE % completion and offer guaranteed rewards at various milestones. For example, 20% completion will award a pilot and 50% a ms suit. Once you have 100% them, you can repeat them for a chance(ie no longer guaranteed) at the same rewards(except pilot). DLC stuff can only be obtained from DLC dispatch missions, achievement related unlocks aside.
