Anti-SD
I never understood why this boundless passion for SD when I imagine a non-SD Gundam Generation but with full-size mobile suites ... it would be GREAT.

There was one game that has full-sized MS, it was called Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny: Generation of CE for the PS2. From what I heard, it wasn't really that popular, so the concept wasn't revisited.

I don't mind it as much with the new extended frames. I'm just glad we get any of them all outside of Japan/SEA.

I've actually come to prefer some of the designs better in Cross Rays too.

SRW gives you a bit of a hybrid of both, the actual battle sprites are somewhat chibified (not to SD levels), but some of them have full cut-ins that make it look like it's right out of the movies or shows.

Probably cause it was marketable back in the day (even moreso than full-size Gundams back in the day, too!), maybe easier to animate, and perhaps also easier to make mobile suits identifiable on the platforms you were playing these games on. Or at least, that's what I think. After the point where technology has advanced, it's probably a conscious decision to keep things like this as IMO it gives it its own unique identity from other Gundam games. It's kinda hard, at least for me, to not associate the look of super-deformed mecha with strategy games, since two very big series (G Generation and Super Robot Wars) both have that in common. (I'm aware that there are more Gundam and mecha games out there which use super-deformed designs with different gameplay styles, but there's no doubt that those two series would be most identifiable among them, right?)

Yeah it made sense to use SD or Chibi forms on things like Gameboys since the resolution is so small. Doesn't have the same value today when even phones are running 4k and the latest Nintendo handheld is up to 1080p.

This is the only Gundam game franchise in which I like the SD look. Probably because I come from Disgaea. But I never liked the SD shows or even that SD Gundam online fighting game that used to exist.

Personally, I don't mind it at all. When Cross Rays was freshly released I was not sure if I'd like it or not, but that doubt was erased the instant I actually played.

In the game's narrative it doesn't even matter at all, to the characters in-game these are just the proper machines (only Superior Dragon being referred to as "the cute one").

I'd still like to see RG- or MG-versions of Sisquiede and the Phoenix Gundam tho.

I'll take some HG versions too.

If you don't like it then why complain here about it since you love Gundam so much scream at Sunrise and other publishers to give you a game why would YOU want US to lose a type of game WE like.

People are allowed to have different tastes from you and the game sold well in the west.

Wasn't it something about full sized gundams been more expensive to license?
So they went SD and as they did good they just left it as a brand thing while saving money.

People still believe this... I'm dumbfounded that this blatant lie continues to be spread to this day.
THIS NEEDS TO STOP.

A super-deformed version of a design isn't less or more expensive to licence, because you still have the same character likenesses, the same model names, the same base designs, the same music if you're a Premium G Sound Edition player, and most importantly, the same series name. You still have to negotiate with the appropriate networks and people if that's a barrier preventing you from including this unit/pilot in the game otherwise (like Gundam Sentinel as explained above).

From the SD Gundam G Generation wiki page regarding size:

"This may be to prevent problems with the different proportions used in various Gundam series, but a larger reason may be the fact that Sunrise has been known to charge a heavy licensing fee for full-sized versions of their mecha to appear in video games, a problem which also plagues the Super Robot Wars series of video games."

Also, commercially SD figures where really popular in the 90's among kids.

Congratulations, you're the VERY FIRST person I've ever spoken to about this who actually has something to potentially back up the statement every time I've argued against it. I'm still wary of that counterargument because I'd prefer to see a source which isn't a wiki, but this is miles ahead of anyone else who has brought this particular point up.

True, some of the more recent ones did get a good bump in quality. Too many stickers, still.

I'm pretty sure I explained it before, SD Gundam is considered one brand while if they used full model versions they'd need to pay for those as well. Hence SRW never using the full body unlike some other series in it

the post above pretty much describes how serious they are about these things
Big Convoy Mar 6, 2021 @ 11:32am
Yeah, I always heard that each series must be licensed individually, while the SD brand is all under one umbrella.

But, I'm guessing that TouyaShiro wants something more substantial than just hearsay or something from Twitter or a Wiki. Probably something like a press release or something similar. However things like this are probably discussed behind closed door at board meeting or similar.
