How do modification unlocks actually work?

I've seen inconsistencies in the lists of what quests unlock what modifications, both with other sources and with my own experiences. For instance, I've seen someone say that the Warship Extra Hanger modification was unlocked from an IBO quest, but I just got it from a 00 quest. Are the modifications of each tier unlocked in a given order, instead of unlocks corresponding to individual/specific quests? There are some unlocks that have definitely been specific to the corresponding quest, but otherwise they seem mostly random.

Most Modifications are given in a specific order, the order is always the same, so one can complete a 00 quest, a SEED quest, an IBO Quest, Etcetera, and still get the same item at the same number of quests, there are a few that either require a specific quest to unlock (For Example: i had to finish the quest of Registering every Barbatos Variant to unlock the Alaya Vijnana system part) either some parts are linked to specific achievements, or I just hit that by sheer coincidence.

They're unlocked in order and there's no way around it. You definitely must be on certain number of time you've completed quests before you can get what you want.

I think there're two modifications which are rewarded directly by completing specific quest such as Zero System for register every MS with Zero system. And get every single Gundam Frame to get AV system.

I definitely think that they are NOT order dependent: I used to check my unlocked parts along another user (and also read some discrepancies on gamefaqs board) and came to the conclusion that when starting a new game, you either get a random table which dictates the order in which you will unlock modifications parts (OP), or every part reward is given at random.

Tihs makes even more sense, since the FIRST EN tank upgrade I got was the lv 3 one, while the lv 1 was one of the 5 last I had to unlock.

I need a solid proof because I remember EN Tank 1 is always available at the start along with a few basic level 1 Modification and a Junk Part Alpha.

Second; EN Tank Upgrade 3 is a number 2nd Gold Rank Modification reward. So actually it can be unlocked very very early and it's possible to get it even before EN Tank 2 (EN Tank 2 is a 16 Bronze Reward).

Bronze, Silver and Gold orders are separated. It's entirely possible to get a Gold version of Modification before the lower tier version of them from Bronze/Silver.

You do realise that the different levels are tied to different ranking and thus different tables, right?

You'll get the EN3 before the EN1 because you did Gold Missions and it's one of the earlier unlocks. EN1 is a Bronze tier mod.

I also still do not have an EN1 and I've completed majority of the game (everything up to 00 and most of IBO).

Nutkun and Paladin are indeed, correct about that: Unlocking a bronze part has no effect on the Silver and Gold parts, unlocking a Gold part does not affect Bronze or Silver parts either, nor do Silver parts affect bronze and gold... the parts each have their own quests associated with them, you cannot get any higher or lower tier parts with a quest, if it states bronze: you get a bronze tier part, if it states Silver, you get a Silver Tier part and so on, the order in which you get them is unaffected.

I know about bronze, silver and gold rank: what I wanted to say is that I had it unlocked ridiculously soon, while a friend of mine didn't get it before getting 50% of the golden modifications.
I have also at one point in the past, asked in this subforum, which quest unlocked the deuterion Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System part, and some users reported to have unlocked it doing a quest I did already clear way before making the thread, which obviously gave me a different part. I'll check later the japanese wiki just to be sure, though.

Japanese Wiki this point would all already update their table to the most latest ones, as it's in current version of the game.

My only guess is that you and your friend are running a different version of the game, which you're running the latest ones. I recall hearing people talking about how an update had adjusted the order of unlockable mod awhile back but there's no way I nor anyone can confirm that fact.

Me and my friend playing a different version is impossible, as steam forces updates, so unless one of the two used a non legit version (which is not the case) it's definitely not that.

I didn't hear about changes in the modification lists, but I just read that the modification rewards were random on genesis, which was the previous game of this one...
