Where to start?
Hey guys,

I picked this game up recently and it seems pretty cool, if a little overwhelming to begin with. Where is the best place to start in terms of missions to complete? I've started with the Iron Blooded Orphans campaign because that is my favourite Gundam series, but I don't want to push too far if my time would be better spent elsewhere.

Is it better to complete one line of missions entirely and then go onto another, or is it easier to grind up pilots and suits by playing all of the first missions for each mission chain, then doing all of the second missions etc?

Cheers!

Hello,

If you really like IBO start with it....then do the other depending of what MS/A you want.

For MS/A you will play them in the other mission so you will unlock them while going through stories , exept for some that appears only in one mission.

If you want to get some MS/A especially , keep playing the mission to be able to build it after....then when you will lvl it by playing you will be able to upgrade it in a better version of it or exchange it for another one .

Also you will be able to combine some to be able to build some other.....without losing them as it s just to unlock blueprints.

One advise for the pilots.....some that you will unlock already got some passive abilities and the 5 free slots. So for example it s better to use Orga as captain of your main ship as soon as you unlock it instead of a basic one as he got the tekkadan leader trait that give +60 in command for free.

You can start anywhere you want really, but the levels are easiest from left to right, judging by stats alone. Starting with Wing is easier, but at some point as you progress down the chapters it'll be easier to swap to a different story and do other early missions.

That said, some of the first stages are about as hard stats-wise, but are shorter than, the final missions in earlier stories like Wing.

There is somewhat of a general consensus that it is not ideal to start with IBO as the main feature of IBO units is having nanolaminate armour which reduce beam weapon dmg . And beam weapon attacks is very common amongst starter units.

But even so you can still revert to personal preferences. It is not impossible to start with IBO, just a little annoying.

Thanks guys!

I take it the "special condition" things aren't always meant to be achievable with low level pilots and suits? I completed the special condition on mission 2 of IBO and the extra enemies that appeared swarmed my ship and destroyed her, whereas I would have comfortably won the mission if they hadn't appeared.

That said, if I had a lot of high level suits and pilots to deploy in my additional squads, I think I could have handled them comfortably.

EDIT: Yes, I noticed the enemies in IBO all have beam resistance so I did some early grinding to get some other suits that don't rely so heavily on beam weapons as the starter suits the game gives you rely almost exclusively on beam weapons, but it's still not an ideal solution.

Well, I did all of the quest conditions without enhancing my units (un-enhanced units basically have the exact same stats as freshly developed units of the same type). And with I used pilots that I preferred without purchasing stats.

So I don't think you need to purposefully grind for achieving the quest conditions. Especially with stages that have guest units. Also I believe the non-dlc quest conditions have no conditions that specifically need certain difficulty levels so you can do ahead to play on Normal.

I finished most of the secrets and quests on my first run of each stage.

There's a few that can be tough if you're not overpowered, or otherwise have ways to boost movement range.

As someone who started with IBO myself I can tell you what I did. Play I think it was stage 2, but don’t destroy all the space type Graze that deploy from the ship, just take out the ship (with at least one opponent left not from the ship) and then capture the Grazes, play it again but add the Grazes to your team first and try to feed them kills to level them up. I think in the end I played it like 4 or 5 times (I was new and was messing around a fair bit experimenting with how some stuff works), and by the time I was done I had developed a bunch of them. I picked up a few things as I progressed from the suits I unlocked from the story units like a Barbatos, and developed other suits I picked up in later missions, but those units that started out as those Graze were most of my team throughout my first time going through IBO. In fact I still have some on my main team to this day. If you develop different ones into different suits they can end up quite different from each other, so it’s not like they will all be the same for long (unless you choose to develop them the same). You don’t have to play it as much as I did as that was mostly getting used to how a few things like who joins link and support attacks works, but getting even just 2 or 3 of them a few levels should help a lot. As for the secret goals, I did almost all of them my first time, but that’s me, I’m good at this kind of game so you may find it harder, and that’s fine, you can come back to it later with more powerful stuff if that’s better for you. I would pay more attention to the quests for each stage anyway, as some of the rewards are good.

I recently started the game at IBO. I don't recommend it because the units have resistance to beam attacks and the mobile suits (phoenix) that we already have at the beginning of the game usually only have one skill that is not beam, this limits the combat a lot

Depends on how you gonna play, for some IBO will be awful because Nanolaminate means Beam resistance and the default suits and quite a few more do love Beams, but personally i had a fairly easy time with it because the first thing i did was sell all the "default" suits to gradually build up my own roster and actually quite like more physical oriented suits (including the IBO ones), which made that point a non-issue and the whole campaign a breeze, especially since Barbatos 1 is dirt cheap, easy to Get Gauge, and developing it up to Lupus Rex isn't exactly hard.

Honestly though? i think the "optimal" choice is probably Wing so you can get a Wing, Develop it to EW Wing to unlock that on Produce list and then do the EW Wing> EW Wing Zero moneymaking tactic ASAP using dispatches and gain funds and then do Trailblazer 1 a couple of time to fill Ptolemaios 2 Kai Get Gaugse and then use those funds you made to buy 1 or two of those since it lets you effectively stage like 20 units a stage complete with 9-link Warship Raid attacks even on maps that limit Raid Squads to 4, i should not need to say how broken this is.

But frankly, the game is easy enough (Before Inferno/Hell at least) that you should just do the series that interest you and have MSes that you like first and then adjust tactics around that.
