Why can't they make this but not SD
I'd love to play a great gundom srpg or just a gundam rpg but why do they have to be SD?

Japan in general isn't big on PC gaming. Most people in Japan/Korea who PC game are playing an MMO of some description. While Bandai is a Japanese publisher who has seen the financial opportunities that the PC market can hold worldwide, there are still games being made for the SEA audience first and the Western audience second.

Why SD Gundam? Because the SD Gundam series is a long established series in Japan. It started as a way to avoid large licensing fees (It was more expensive to use full to scale models at that time), and now it is just a deliberate art style that gives the series a unique artistic identity in its games.

I can't say it'll never happen, again, but given Bandai's current business trends and their recent history as far as Gundam as a game franchise is concerned I doubt we will see a Gundam game as good as SD Gundam. Bandai is unique in that it has its own separate interest in Gundam that it doesn't have with the other anime franchises it makes games for. Bandai makes a ton of money each year via the selling of Gunpla model kits. So they have no real interest in making a game like Zeonic Front/Blue Destiny or Federation vs Zeon/Encounters in space anymore. They would rather make the Gundam Builder/Gunpla Fighter games. The ones that are basically just interactive commercials for one of their biggest cash cows, Gunpla models.

I agree as much as SD is kind of interesting I would rather have normal art work.

This game series has been released decades ago. You are too late to complaint.

it's just lame, I feel like the potential for a truly great mech focused single player open world RPG hasnt been explored (besides xcx) I mean, they have existed and been done but I mean a modern realized experience

Switch has a game but it's more story mission based i believe

Im not explicitly complaining about this series, but the fact is the resources that went into developing this could have went into developing something else.

That isnt to say this doesnt warrant merit, it does just as much as otherwise, i just wish there was a truly fully featured mecha rpg or srpg (that had mature aesthetics) available on the market.

Actually the developer of Gundam Generation series already tried with Generation of CE which is typical GGen turn based strategy game but featuring real proprotion instead of SD, however it's not very successful due to many reasons.

They are gonna be using the same marketing they've been doin in G Generation PSP, reusing assets and by the time we got more gundam series, they'll release a new game with all of the prior assets with the new gundam series.

I mean sure why didnt we get UC then because there's already Genesis, idk why they decided to cut on the content, but really they wanted to make UC special, and the other 4 core of the current generation of gundam that stood out in japan (I mean they choose Wing, Seed, 00, and IBO. and cast out G-reco, X, and AGE, well I dont know turn A is suppose to be outside UC or should be a part of it but when you read the lore you should know that it all ends with Turn A).

I bet in the near future we will get a new game that covers the whole gundam universe. cause thats how they roll.

And yea if you would like it to be a whole gundam then yea it'll be like this

I don't know about you but I prefer the SD tho. and I dont think they gonna change that winning recipe anytime soon.

that's cool to know, i looked into it and it seems to be a ps2 game if there was a steam port i'd pick it up. I might try to see if it's emulatable

Yah if that's what people prefer that's cool, I just wish they tried it with the power of modern graphics. It'd probably go over much better now

I'm sure the current fanbase that plays the games likely prefers the SD aesthetic and that's fine if the series performs well enough to warrant sequels.

Its not their "current" business model it's their business model "since the 1980s" which is to sell plastic models to japan and now to the rest of the world.

And yes they could make every little bit of things like side story whatsoever but if they cant sell then basically they wont make it.
AlucardC69 Dec 26, 2019 @ 5:19am
the major reason is the licensing issues. hell, it's so expensive that with SD proportions, it's cut off enough to develop the series. even the songs need to be paid in order to play in the game. and yes, that's the reason the premium version on PS4 and switch are so damn expensive... whew.

You say that but long ago they made a ton of Gundam games that was more than just selling gunpla, I’m talking the ones that didn’t really introduce any new designs, just wanted to tell a story or the strategy games like Gihren Greed, there’s a degree of effort that was in older Gundam games that aren’t the same here except for the Tom Create games really. The Gundam breaker series was great until new Gundam breaker too, but really we need a return of games like dynasty warriors gundam or at least a port of it from Koei.

As for OP, I guarantee that once you start playing the game the suits won’t look weird to you. It’s “SD” but its proper proportion SD like super robot wars rather than old school SD Gundam
BoosterBlue Dec 26, 2019 @ 12:32pm
Look at how the SD style has changed over the years. Every new generation brings the proportions closer to real definition. It'll get there.
