I'll still consider it a bug or glitsch that should be fixed, albeit a minor one. It doesn't make any in-game sense that he promises to cure me of vampirism, and then tries to kill me for staying my bloodthirst rather than feeding on one of his fellow villagers.
Anyway, thanks for the help, Shadow :)
Anyway, here's the new chapter: I tried feeding before meeting Falion, and it didn't seem to me to work. He doesn't attack me anymore, but when the quest system closes the "Meet Falion at dawn" step and opens the next one, "Speak to Falion", I can't satisfy the requirement. I can talk to him (getting the options to 1. Ask for conjuration lessons; 2. Ask why he set up a shop here; 3. Ask what he can tell about the area), but nothing seems to advance the quest. The goal marker is still bopping over his head, though.
I guess I'll have to go back to a save before even talking to him, which is very annoying, since the most recent save before that will set me far back. That'll have to wait until next week when I have time to play again, tho'.
But for the stage 4, it's working as designed/intended.
Thanks for the advice about having to be in the circle. :) I actually think this makes more narrative sense than Falion's odd behaviour, but there you go. It's alway interesting to hear other opinions.
So you have been warned. :)
As somebody else has said, he has to be in the circle before the cure option appears in his conversation. If he's standing outside the circle, push him inside it. You know, Skyrimians have their space of intimacy, so they'll move if you stand very close to them. You can use that to get him to move there, in small steps.
On the other hand, I had the problem of having no speech option to start the ritual too. I was so annoyed I whacked the hell out of young Falion and knocked him out. He was outside the circle the whole time, even when he "reset" after I "killed" him. But when he reset, he suddenly started the ritual. Hope that works for others - give Falion 'what for" until you knock him down, wait for him to get up and see what happens.
No, it doesn't annoy me. I originally raised the question to hear if other people found it as ridiculous as I do, and if you disagree, that's fine.
I still think it's pretty odd that Falion, Skyrim's leading expert on vampires, will make an appointment with a vampire without warning him that he'll attack if you haven't had a fill of blood before the appointment, but I think I've stated so much already.
It would appear that I'm in the minority here, so I guess I'll let it fare.
"gods! a vampire! burn it!"
