I hate Serana!!!!!!
I played dawnguard on both sides (dawnguard and vampires) and in both situation i hated serana.

1: you are FORCED to have her as a follower in 90% of dawnguard quests, ad for people that like to go solo this is really a pain. Even if she has high sneak she gives up your position many times becouse she charges ito battles. Also she is VERY WEAK, making almost no dmg and being crippled very easy, either in the low levels and in the high levels.

2: she ALAWAYS COMPLAINS: if you travel in daytime she can't stand the light and asks you to go into caves, when you go into caves she says she has been buried for centuries and wants fresh air, if you travel at night she doesn't stand th weather, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

3: DAWNGUARD SIDE PLOT HOLE AS BIG AS A PLANET: ok, i am a dawnguard, i am a werewolf, i go into the cave and i free a vampire that brings an ELDER SCROLL with her, and not only i let her go, but i help her to bring the elder scroll into my arch-enemy castle...
Well, my char would have killed her on the spot and retrieved the elder scroll, and the fact that there is no choice or any explanation is given why i should bring her to the vampire castle, makes that episode the worst written of the entire game.

Someone explain me why i should bring serana to the vampire castle and leave the elder scroll to the vapires. I mean, the elder scroll is THE MOST POWERFULL TOOL in the entire Nirn...
That completely makes no sense.

On the vampire side it makes no sense too: before becoming a vampire lord i must go to dawnguard castle, join them, and then change my mind after meeting the vampire lord. That makes no sense too, if i was inot vampirism why the hell should i go to help dawnguards?

Wouldn't it had been easier: you like vampires or are a normal vampire, hear a rumor about a vampire castle, travel there, be instructed by vampire lord to free her daughter and bring back to the castle, reward: become a vampire lord.

DAwnguard side: kill serana, retrieve the elder scroll, go back to dawnguard castle, intercept the elder scroll reader, etc.

I think that would have been more realistc and well written, and not difficult to progrm into the game.

Ugh, I just finished the Auriel's Bow quest - boy did that go ON! - Serana's behaviour as a follower was weird on this one. Often she'd drag her heels and not follow me, only to suddenly appear again. Then I was trying to sneak up on a Frost Giant and wanted to tease him a bit with a few sneak bow attacks before going in with the warhammer. But no, Serana spoilt it all by saying "Where did you come from?", ruining my sneak attack and charged in with all the subtley of a rhinoceros on prozac...

She goes off on her own frequently, and sometimes refuses to follow in situations where I would very much like her help. (I assume she's off feeding on whomever we just killed, and being considerate of my feelings, prefers to do it out of my sight.) She also has serious ADHD, and that is sometimes a problem. I wish she'd sip some Skooma from time to time and just chill for a while. Her OCD about crafting activities I just find amusing.

Having her as a follower is a real incentive to maximise my range attacks. (I rely on range attacks and use melee weapons when range attacks fail or when they're simply not appropriate.) She's not quite so aggressive in caves, but if an enemy slips by and gets behind me, she's always right there to finish it off. (One reason I gave her my Deathbrand armour is that it makes her easy to identify. I wish she had a map marker.) I've actually altered my fighting style to accomodate Serana.

Serana is actually one of the better followers though, and IMO the best. I like her independence. I will continue to defend her in spite of her sometimes annoying idiocyncrasies. We can't all be perfect.

I hate Serana too, she's an angsty teenaged ♥♥♥♥ with daddy issues. Every line of dialog spewed from her disgusting face makes every wrinkle on my face cringe. ♥♥♥♥ Serana, and ♥♥♥♥ every fanboy that wants her as their waifu.

Necroposting over 2 years old threads, are we?
Nice manners.

A lot of ♥♥♥♥♥ given...
... from someone who actually used the word "waifu."

I like her, unlike all the other static NPC's in Skyrim, she has a consistent personality. My only complaint about her is that since so much of the DLC is centered around her following you, she could've had a few more one-liners. Also, she has some actual character development. Ultimately, it's each to their own taste.....

Serena is probably the best companion. she is intresting where as the others are boring. she is powerfull and not to mention hot as hell. but if you have a problem with her just ditch her after dawnguard.

Yup, you're railroaded into it, no choice. The game of course railroads you into most things the illusion of choice is little more than a fig leaf at times and this is one of those times where its painfully obvious.

: she ALAWAYS COMPLAINS: if you travel in daytime she can't stand the light and asks you to go into caves, when you go into caves she says she has been buried for centuries and wants fresh air, if you travel at night she doesn't stand th weather, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Theres Serana Dialogue Edit mod which aims to fix the worst of the dialogue atrocities. Worth a shot.

You''re not the first to notice the gaping plot hole...

That completely makes no sense.

Nope, no sense at all . Other than the fact that you were probably supposed to join the Volkihar clan at this point and Bethesda had second thoughts and said "Hang on, what if the player doesn't want to join..." and tacked on the alternative Dawnguard quest as an afterthought, much like "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood!" quest. Completely devoid of anything worthwhile or useful.

On the vampire side it makes no sense too: before becoming a vampire lord i must go to dawnguard castle, join them, and then change my mind after meeting the vampire lord. That makes no sense too, if i was inot vampirism why the hell should i go to help dawnguards?

Indeed.

Probably. But there are indications the Dawnguard DLC was rushed (see Serana dialogue point again) and that would have consumed extra resources/time.

Serana was the only person in skyrim you could understand everyone else was like help me dragon born! It is funny she is the only one you can't marry either. You look in the games files though the scripts were there. It seems bethesda likes to even leave out finished ideas and quests as well.Even the scripts to divorce someone were left in the games files it was going to be a quest..

I don't follow here. Is there something else that you want that is not already included here?

Sorry, magic, but the marriage script thing is an urban legend and wishful thinking. It's the reason that marry serana mods have to use typed script instead of voice, or be real creative. There are a couple of lines of script that aren't tied to anything on the game and that's where the rumor came from. No merchant script, or in house script, or even all the necessary ceremony scripts.

well the scripts for divorce are still there even the npcs talk afterwards about you breaking thhere heart and now they wanted to break your face..
Serana always struck me as out of place. The way she talks and everything feels like a modern person that was dumped into the middle of Skrim (with some exceptions, of course). Something's a little off about her.

Well, she's been in stasis for a very, very long time, since before the first Empire, presumably back in her day people talked like modern-day earthlings...
