howto find refID in creation kit?
How do I find the refID in the kit? not the base ID (or form ID as its called?) but the one I would actually use to do stuff in the console command when running the game?

If you right click on the object and hit preview, that will give it to you.

It will say Preview Object: <Editor ID> <Ref ID>

The easiest way to do it is through the console in-game by typing: help "whatever it is" 4

That would give BaseID, not RefID.

@Lilly.
If you need RefID for an NPC, the easiest way is to find it on the TES wiki. For other items... yeah... no idea. I cannot imagine the "preview" in CK would work for that, but dont take my word for it.

They say even a broken clock is right twice a day. This isn't one of those two times. Sorry.
Pretty sure about the CK - I looked before I posted - but could be base and not ref...

Yeah.. no. That just leads to the base ID. Form ID = Base ID. Not RefID. Oh well. Guess I'll just need to wait.

Which RefID do you need?

I don't need any RefID right now actually, but rather for when Dragonborn comes out. I just know that there will be an npc I like but won't be able to marry cause Bethesda likes trolling us that way. So I thought, since you can semi-load xbox dlc into the kit/pc version I could use the kit to find the RefIDs to mod my save file earlier rather than later.

You could have used in-game commands for that.

It can't be found in the creation kit, but you can find it by entiering this in the console "save testname 1". The 1 is an option to generate a text file for you that contains all the codes in the save and put it in your save game folder. Then just search up the name of what your looking for. The first search result will be the baseId and the second will be the refId

Thank you for that. Even years later, that is a handy bit of information to have when you need a Ref ID from your playthrough.
