Having trouble: Missing a file somehow
So I recently got back into Skyrim, updated my mods, SKSE, and Scriptdragon, and started Skyrim up, only to find out that none of my saves would load anymore. Naturally, I verified the integrity of the game cache, and sure enough, one file was missing. It redownloaded, and I started up the game.
But again, it crashed and refused to load. So I verified the cache again, and a file was missing again. So I redownloaded it, but this time I immediately verified it again before starting up the game. Again, missing one file. So I removed all my mods, every single one, and verified. Missing one file. I've gone through multiple Steam reloads and restarts, and computer reloads and restarts, and every single time, missing one file, and Steam refuses to download it, even though it says that it downloaded it.
So today, finally, I completely removed the game. Uninstalled, all saves and logs removed. Then I reinstalled it, then verified the cache one last time. Sure enough, still missing one file. Has anyone else gone through the same problem, and does anyone know what to do to fix it? Is there anyway to find out which file is giving me the trouble?

In your reloads, did you install SKSE each time? I have an idea of what might be going on, but since I haven't encountered this problem yet I haven't tried this idea out.

No, I haven't. And when reinstalling Skyrim, SKSE wasn't in the folder either.

I'm having the same issue, but i just bought the game. Never played it before, ever. No mods, and I've completely uninstalled and re-installed 8-10 times. But i still run into one file missing.

contact Steam support. especially if u bought it online from them. its their responsibility to supply the files.

I bought it in the store, and have contacted support. But basically, all they said was turn off my mods, and if that doesn't work, send them a copy of my directx diagnostic report. I don't have any mods, and have already replied to them. Still no response. the first response was within about 15 minutes, still waiting on this one though. 3 hours and counting...

Still having this issue, got a reply from bethesda, all they said was my system doesn't meet minimum requirements. but it does, apparently, that's the only explanation they have to my game crashing out when i start a new game.

if you lower settings to min turn off anti alising and such you can play game with the missing file but you get times were the game frame rates suck untill its fixed its only way i found to get my game running. used to be able to play game on high and ultra settings now stuck with ugly but still an intresting game. do you think they will fix it in a few patches time?

Probably not, it's the mods that are conflicting each other and Bethesda aren't responsible for making mods. Also I can get a fair idea why there is one file always "missing". It's not, it's just that the mods change that file and each time you verify Steam will just redownload the original file (because everytime you run Skyrim again, the mod/your custom option will overwrite it). Try to use BOSS and see which mod is making the trouble here.

tryed boss with a fresh clean up of any file related to skyrim says i need to clean up and steam still says a file is missing

When you verify Skyrim game content, Steam checks all your game files and compares them to his own default copy. Presumably it's skyrim.ini that was downloaded over and over, as it holds the majority of player options. So being modifyed by first start of the game after the integrity check, when launcher sets the "optimal" settings according to your system, makes it not default. Then again, you initiate verify process and so on. If that's so, then forget about that file and check your mods. Had an experience of using skse and script dragon at once, well, had a bad time)

I had similar problem after reinstalling skyrim with dawnguard. (I'd changed my harddrive -> not content, just system) I didn't use mods (execpt space and the offical HD texture packages). I found out that some of the save game files got corrupt. A single corrupt game save can crash skyrim. Because it seems, skyrim read every save game on startup for checkings. A bad file can cause a crash when menu should be open. After I move the saves away, I was able to start skyrim without crahses. I'd copied the saves back (one by one) and skiped the corrupt ones.
So, maybe you check out, if skrim starts without any old save game (don't forget to move the autosaves too).
