Grindstone Issues - You Do Not Have The Required Skill
Kay so first off, yes I have mods but none that change anything outside character customization, graphics, and some standalone armor sets as well as misc things (e.g. potion sorter). As far as I know from the descriptions of each all of them are upt-to-date to support Dawnguard and most support Hearthfire.

Now my issue is I just started a new character and I've gone to Riverwood to do the next quest with Alvor after the Helgen quest(s). After chatting about the dragon I ask if he needs help at the forge, I get to the point where he asks me to sharpen the iron dagger, I have more than enough iron ignots but whenever I get to the window to select the dagger it's greyed out, when I proceed to click it it tells me I don't have the required skill to do what I'm trying to do. I've questioned my boyfriend as to if I need to be a certain skill or player level to be able to do this and he replies with a no. I've googled up multiple searches on the situation and I've found one or two thread talking about it but it never got solved or the OP ceased to reply.

I'm not planning on being a master blacksmith on this character but I have others that I'm working on leveling blacksmith with and need to know a fix for this. I'm happy to list all mods I have if questioned as I'm fairly new to using them and many don't have any compatibility issues listed in their descriptions and if they do none of the other mods were on the list or fit the common issue type.

Also I'm using a 360 controller! I've toggled it on and off and tried doing this with the keyboard. Reverting to old saves, etc. Sheathing/Unsheathing the weapon does not work either.

Thank you for the reply, I see why I wasn't able to before. My dingbat boyfriend thought I was asking if I could sit at the grindstone when I asked "What level do I need to be to use the grindstone". Anyways, since I'm using Another Life: Live Another Life my smithing skill is low since I'm a dark elf. :P

It's not a big deal for this character, as I said previously I was moreso worried about my characters who specialize in smithing not so much this one as she'll be using found, bought, or quest given armor as it stands.

But I believe the leather bracers are easier than having to find, buy, or steal iron bars for the daggers.

You can up your smithing skills easily by making lots of iron daggers.

If by 'easily' you mean 'very, very, slowly and inefficiently', then yes.

This makes me wonder how many iron daggers you would have to make to go from low level smithing to level 100?

Starting at a skill level of 15.
No bonuses (stone, rest, potions/enchants).

Anyone know why a lvl 100 Blacksmith can't use the grindstone? I have all relevant perks in Smithing to unlock everything. However I can't upgrade my Master Sword or Hylian Shield after drinking a Smithing potion to boost the improvement ratings. These are not Mod items I'm playing Skyrim on Switch and found them through those cute amiibo zelda characters
