Summon Durnerhviir - learning shout after killing Durnerhviir
Due to "triggerhappines" i managed to kill Durnehviir twice during my trip to Soul Cairn. Now, hours and hours of gameplay later, i just realized that he was trying to speak to me the second time (It all happened so fast he didn't manage to open his mouth before i finished him off). Because of this i didn't learn the shout to summon Durnehviir, and because of that i'm not able to learn soul tear.

Do you know another (any) way to learn the shout to summon Durnehviir? If you do I would be incredibly happy to hear about it. Happy happy happy!!

PS
Since the 'incident' in Soul Cairn i have completed a bunch of other quests and sidequests, so needless to say i'm not so eager to reload all the way back to that saving.

I am not sure of the exact id of summon durnerhviir words, but type help "summon durnerhviir" into the console and you should get 3 result for the id. This can be used with the command player.teachword [id]. But, instead of it being activated like in the defualt proccess, you will need dragon souls to get it.

So we need to be in the Soul Cairn for that quest? ahh, thanks.

You make me think of Tobuscus xD

Personally, I have the shout, and all three words unlocked, and the quest says to summon him in Tamriel, but when I hold the shout button down, it always fails to execute. I decided to just forget about it.

SFBryan18 - To summon Durnurhviir, you have to actually target a large open area nearby, as if you were actually summoning an atronach - if you shout for him while aiming into the air, at an area too far away, or an area on the ground that is obstructed or too small, he won't appear. I learned this only after trying to summon him constantly and failing, but finally succeeding and realizing what I had done wrong.
I must admit that after I downloaded Dawnguard, and until I downloaded Hearthfire, summoning ANYTHING was problematic (It seemed that Dawnguard introduced a bug that made summoning more difficult that then was patched by Hearthfire, although maybe it was a mod that caused the problem instead - I did unsubscribe to a few mods about the time I got Hearthfire).

There were problems with summoning in the base game, if you have those magic absorbtion effects, it can make the spell fail as you absorb your own spell (which is very weird).

Writing <help "summon durnerhviir"> in the command console didn't bring me anywhere.
However the <player.teachword> command was a home run. Thanks gggg336. I managed to find the three shout-IDs at the interweb and now i apparently know them all.

<player.teachword 020030D4> Dur (D6)
<player.teachword 020030D6> Neh
<player.teachword 020030D7> Viir (V3r)
---

It would be nice though to 'resurrect' Durnerhviir so that i could go back to Soul Cairn to meet him face to snout. I suspect the happy happy happiness wouldn't feel so bloody hollow if i weren't just punching three cheat-codes into the console :)

Thank you!

Ah thank you, tommymeyer, I really needed to know about this. I got stuck too, not because I killed Durnehviir, but because I left Soul Cairn before I was taught the word, and when I realized this and returned later I couldn't converse Durnehviir. When using the console command to make him appear all it got me was Durnehviir circling above me but never landing. - Now there's a chance I may finally be able to learn the Soul Tear shout.

I called him once in Tamriel, it said I learned the first part. I think he hung around to help fight for a bit, but then it says learn the second part.

Just summon him again

Same happened to me! I went back to the crain and typed in: player.placeatme xx00c71a
Remember that you have to replace the xx with the number of mod your dawnguard is beeing loaded. you check that by starting skyrim in steam and clicking data files in the launcher. so for me it was player.placeatme 0200c71a
Durnehviir then appeared at my spot and teached me the first word. i repeated this 3 times so i learned all three words. :)

THANK YOU! I've trued summoning him like Odaviing like a hundred times, but it never worked.

Maiq knows much.
player.teachword wont give you the steam achievement. Maiq had the same problem. Maiq fixed the problem via console:
"set dlc1vq05durnehviirdeath to 0"
"player.addspell 020030d5"
"player.equipspell 020030d5 left"
then maiq summoned durnehviir three times and learned all three words. After that maiq saved the game and never spoke about this incident again. Or did he?

He will teach the words of Soul Rend at the beginning of each summons in Tamriel three separate times, but you still must unlock each word with Dragon Souls.
He will stick around a bit after each summons and fight as your ally.
Even after that, you can still summon him when you need him.

Look on the bright side Pelzmark,
if you go back and talk with him, you'll get a chance to do things differently because I'll guaratee this one thing: You can avoid making new mistakes and your second time through will most certainly be different.
