Customizing the Controls - Mapping Xbox 360 Controller
Hello All,

Does anyone know how to fully customize the controls in Skyrim?
For example, say I wanted to make P + Q open the inventory, how would I set that up?

Further, does anyone know how I would map the Xbox 360 controller for such a control scheme?

I do not think you can map two keys to one function, to map the controller you need to plug it in and select the function and press the button you want to map it to. Also, you need to make sure bgamepadenable=1 in your skyrimprefs.ini file.

Check out Skyrimnexus.com...and search XBOX...you will find a lot of settings...maybe one jsut the way you want it. Plus I think some give tutorials on how to create your own...I use XBOX for Skryim...but I'm pleased with the basic setup and dont' need to adjust it. Good Luck!

I don't think there is any game that lets you have key combos in the key mapping.

Unfortunately, OP, the PC version doesn't really support dual button input for one function. You're not really likely to find a configuration overhaul in the Skyrim Nexus either, despite what LeeDavis told you.

Plus, and I'm sorry if this seems as narrow-minded to you, but why would you want two buttons to accomplish a function that can be mapped to a single button just as effectively? P and Q aren't anywhere near one another on the standard keyboard, for instance, so I don't see how that would maximize your input.

Actually, if you extract the Skyrim - Interface.bsa, all you have to do is edit the controllermap.txt and any combination can be put in. The only thing is that the key number you put first has to be pushed first.

Example: Say number 'X' is 0x0001 and number 'Y' is 0x0002, then you would fill in the combo like this:

0x0001+0x0002

This combo means that you press 'X' first and while holding it you then press 'Y'. I haven't tried this with the keyboard slots, but this is how the 360 slots work, so unless someone says I'm wrong, I see no reason why this won't work for a keyboard as well.

You can also make both combos work by putting the numbers like this:

0x0001+0x0002, 0x0002+0x0001

This means that both X then Y and Y then X will achieve the same function.

Make sure to use the same file path that the .bsa uses when dropping the controller map into the data folder so the Skyrim.esm can find it.

Thank you all for the replies! And thank you, SFBryan18, for that little tutorial!
I actually found this mod:

I'm finding it to be exactly what I wanted. I may try editing controllermap.txt one day though.

I just used P + Q as an example of what I wanted to know. That mapping would be rather awkward, wouldn't it? Haha

I use a mod called MORE HOT KEYS PLEASE and the Jyujinkai Control Map

MORE HIT KEYS PLEASE - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23416

It allows you to make very cool hot keys and map them to your controller (or keyboard but why would anyone play this game with a keyboard ).. The jyujinkai control map simply swaps the buttons with teh D-PAD do you can easily access teh hot keys you set up with out takign your thumb off the movement stick...

IMO this is such a improvement to the game.

here is a demo - http://youtu.be/SfOZ5KBdqzA (not using Jyujinkai Control Map)

I removed B from the tween menu and now use it like Shift on keyboard. Exaple, B+X quicksave, B+LS autowalk. B+RB more hotkeys please button (you need something like JoyToKey for this). It sounds hard, but once you get used you will have controls consoles only dream.

I have a mode that allows me to parry with dual-welding, therefor i am looking for something that will allow me to have extra combos to preform that parry on a controller. I'm going to try out the hot keys mod to try to reprogram the controls.

DS3 came out in 2016, four years after this thread was posted.
