some games hate it when you do it. Games use lots of resources and don't always detect that you brought it back into focus. If want to play game and something else recommend a 2nd screen for the other program that u wont touch awhile you play

Skyrim is built not to minimize, this is intended by bethesda and steam. The steam in-game community page will though allow you to access an in-game web browser and other utilities if needs be. This can be accessed by pressing shift-tab in-game.

you can't even change the song you're listening to while playing skyrim, it's quite annoying.

Yeah that's why I want to minimize too

I hate this about Skyrim, BUT, I have found an almost perfect solution! To minimize the game when you're playing just do Alt+Tab (You probably already knew that) Then, to get back to the game, do Ctrl+Alt+Tab (Hitting tab until Skyrim is selected) Then click on Skyrim (this will give you the black screen) Right-click in the black, cycle through Ctrl+Alt+Tab and again click the Skyrim mini window, then right-click again in the black. around 90% of the time it will got back to the game in a few seconds or so. Occasionally if you accidentally clicked something when doing this the Windows mouse pointer will end up in the game which is only fixable by restarting Skyrim. But if you follow the directions exactly it should work every time.

Huh that seems like a pretty good solution I'll have to try that

Yeah it sounds weird and complicated but it works for me
