Maybe the courier took his sweet time delivering the contract to the thugs.... Took a detour into a skooma den, headed to the pub, danced with some goats, married a hagraven, then a month later, woke up in a haystack, reached into his pocket and went, "Oh crap, I gotta still deliver this!!"
