Unless your character hasn't finished Bleak Falls Barrow and returned to Farangar with the Dragonstone, or ever visited a war room in any hold, there is no excuse to pretend he or shee hasn't seen the big flagged map with all the major holds marked, in addition to many smaller communities and forts.
