What would it take to make a Betrayal at Krondor MOD for Skyrim?
Firstly, for those of you who may have never heard of Betrayal at Krondor (BaK), it was one of the premiere and best RPG's to come out for early to mid 90's PC's. Truly an epic RPG, ultilizing so many of the components we've come to love in our modern Role Playing Games. Amazing story, difficultly level through the roof, exceptional level of depth, multiple different characters to control; quite simply one of the reasons I became a fan of RPG's. If you have the time and interest go to GOG.com and download it. Forgive the dated graphics, spend the 5 bucks and get ready.

More importantly...after playing Skyrim for so many hours (almost 200), I easily believe that it has all the components necessary to make a very true to the original BaK. After viewing all the Mods that have come out, there is no doubt it my mind that a BaK mod, or even expansion could be made. Unfortunately, I am not a programmer, or mod specialist (though I wish I were). I have no idea the level of involvement mods take, although I can surely appreciate that they do take alot.

Does anyone remember playing this game? And if so, what do you think it would take to make a Skyrim mod remake?

Looking for comments, questions and ideas.

how about no?

Since it is still being sold, somone still owns the rights to the game; that makes it problematic to make mods about it unless you get the permission of the owners.

Shiva, Moolah, Thanks for those pointing out those issues on the pheasibility of a BaK project.

Angel, piss off if you can't do anything better than troll.

I enjoyed BAK. Was a good game. Enjoyed Eye of the Beholders too. The ones made by Westgate Studios, 1 and 2 I think.. THey just seemed to pale in comparison to me compared to the Wizardry series tho.

Krondor the Betrayal a great book by Raymond Feist. A lot of his books would make great games expecially the Rift Wars. But don't hold your breath.

The rights to the game are lost somewhere in limbo, Feist's hands are currently tied up... or at least that's what he claims. Neal Hallford, the writer and designer behind BaK (yup, Feist didn't write a single line of text) has tried to do a remake, but he couldn't just for that reason.

Other than that, I would love to see the game being remade, but sadly this isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future. Still, we can dream about it, right?

With all the new technology that has come about since the original Krondor hit PC's, I believe it would be a wondorous game. If they still kept it VERY difficult and had that same open-ended gameplay (at least in the sense of what you could do between chapters) I see it opening up current RPG enthusiasts to a brilliant game.

Just think, how many games now-a-days FORCE you to have to eat (have rations). Or make healing so difficult (remember when you used to get poisoned?), make sleeping an important part to the game. The more I reflect on it, they just don't make games like that anyone. They hold our hand now, give us page by page walk through, have 1000's of internet assistance sites. Give me back my mind numbing gaming experience...

Angel, let me know where to download it and I will. I'm willing to invest time and effort into it. I just don't know where to get started.

Library -> Tools -> Creation kit

Sooo... no mod is being made, right? :)

The Creation Kit alone is not sufficient for this task. You will need other software as well. Programs such as Blender, 3Ds Max, Nifscope spring to mind.

I know this is dated long time ago but yes, Betrayal at Krondor was the best RPG I played in my life. I played it a few times even and I will download it again from GOG because those know how to make old games run in Windows whatever version usualy.

This game takes huge amount of time to play and beside the plot lines, we are free to go wherever we want most of the time. A very captivating story line to enjoy.

If I knew how to program in Skyrim I would surely put some time on it but unfortunately I'm too knew to Skyrim to look at this feature. Also I believe doing the full story would be too much work for anyone and it has nothing to do with Skyrim. Therefore I would only welcome a few mods to remember this game. Like a copy of "King of Riverhelm" but being "King of Krondor" amd a few other things. Personaly I only did a new race "the Atlantean" and I'm enjoying this game a lot so far.

Remember it? I still play it. I downloaded it a few years for free, after I discovered a small program called Dosbox.

Thanks for the recent replies. Game is VERY overlooked in the grand scheme of things. Being the closest thing to "open world" as ANY game at that time could be, it was simply revolutionary in that resepect.
RPG elements, story (which by many standards is easy to pick up and follow compared to many modern games), multiple characters, the lock puzzle (which as a kid, were freaking amazing logic and critical thinking practice) are all simply stunning.
Someone is missing out on oodles of cash with not reviving this classic game and updating its mechanics with modern ones. I firmly believe this game has aged very well if you mordernize its gaming mechanics. The reason I have suggested a MOD is because the Skyrim world essentially mirrors what I always envisioned the BaK world as containing.
