Well, i guess it'll overwrite your old key, if this doesn't work, contact the steamsupport, they should help you at all.
You didn't have to uninstall the game at all, because Steam is updating the game, so it's on the same level when it's digital.
Thanks for the help guys, I'm trying to contact support now, but just in case it takes them 6 years to get back to me, hwo would I go about activating the new key? It never asks me to enter the key cause when I install it still has the old one registered.
At the top of this browser u can click on "Games" -> "Activate a Product on Steam...". If this doesn't work, contact them.
Well, no problem babe, have fun. :p
Well, he mentioned to everyone, also you tried to help, so there's no problem. :p
How did you do that? I have the same problem.
I followed support's advice and ran
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -install D:
to make it install from the DVD after registering it, and it said it would take 20 minutes to update.
But after the 20 minutes it starting downloading the DLC!
It's got as far as 7.5 GB out of 11.2 GB in 2.5 hours, and I had over 6 GB to start with! The DVD is nearly 7 GB, which is hugely more than my original DVD. The box says "including DG, HF and DB", so I thought they would be compressed on the disk. So it should install from the disk and then go on-line to check for updates. But the damned disk should be fully patched to 1.9.32.08 anyway.
But it won't install at all unless I am on-line. When I entered the key number, it should have registered that I had a valid disk and then asked me what I wanted to install.
God, I HATE Steam and all on-line validation protocols. I despise it with a passion and loathing I cannot describe. I have a bloody disk and a valid registration key! It should take 20 minutes to install from the disk, not hours and hours from Steam at 100 KB per second, 405.3 KB/s peak rate. And at a cost of £20.
And I only wanted to install Dawnguard anyway!
~.~
One does not simply installing one Add-On. Lol.
It's your connection then, because i dl with 11.4 MB/s here.
But why are the damned DLCs not on the disk when the box says they are included?
What is that 7 GB on the disk if it's not compressed esm and bsa files?
And why is the damned thing trying to download anything at all when I have a DVD and it accepted the registration key?
And not everyone lives in an area that has superfast broadband, so don't be so smug.
But even so, Steam is notoriously slow. I have a Broadband dongle that downloads other things far, far faster than Steam can deliver.
