Dawnguard ending - so...thats it then?
SPOILER ALERT

there said it.

Ok now heres the problem i got. I killed harkin and then that kinda seems to be it for dawnguards ending....???? really?

i was expecting something more filling than just harkin is dead - dawnguards go back to the castle - serana either stays with u or goes to stay at fort dawnguard

serana didnt seem to mention 1 thing about going back to the soul carin and getting her mother out. I did that myself and aside from her returning to the castle she didnt say 1 thing to her daughter nor did serana say 1 single word to her mother

Isran didnt seem to say bugger all to me either. he just walked in AFTER i killed harkin and then said 'its done' and now just hangs around the fort dawnguard doing nothing and not really seeming to change his talk options from when i first met him.

It just feels....empty....i mean even serana doesnt seem to say anything to me now its over. I asked her to join me and the only new conversation i got was - do you want to be cured - and she got angry with me and refuses to talk about it. Now she doesnt mention anything new to me or anything like 'lets go free my mother now my dad dead etc'

was this a case of -Indiana Jones The Last Crusade- and they just finished it quickly without giving a proper ending or any explaination because they didnt have enough time or money? or is it just a case of bad writting. It just feels as empty as the ending to mass effect 3

Yep, doing the vampire sides no better either, you just end up doing the same ♥♥♥♥ with Serana and betraying and killing harkon... but as a vampire. Bethesda is great at building up lore for their games but they seem pretty terrible at delivery within an actual playable story.

well... there was an extra little thing aside from retrieving serana's mother from the soul carin. you could have asked serana if she wanted to cure her vamparism at the end of the DLC and if you didnt talk to her about it through the entire DLC up until then then she will consider it and go to the wizard in morthal to cleanse herself. then after a few day's, you can go back to castle dawnguard and you can see what she looks like unvamped.

Well, if you didn't bug her about it throughout the DLC, you can actually get Serana to cure herself. After the end of the big boss fight with Harkon, Isran would always come in and make a speech for me, or at least speak to Serana about how much he appreciates what she did. You can also return the Elder Scrolls to Dexion Evicus either for free or for a price.

Personally, I actually didn't mind the ending too much. It wasn't anything too grand, but it was just the satisfaction of finishing it that made me feel accomplished. Then again, I'm also one of the people who actually kind of liked the ending to Mass Effect 3. Sure, it wasn't the greatest thing ever, but I still enjoyed it. And the free DLC they put out for it expanded on the ending even more.

The first thing in the body of the post is "SPOILER ALERT" in all caps.

EDIT: Also, when you see a post with the title of "Dawnguard ending - so...that's it then?" you should probably assume that there's going to be, I don't know, information on the ending - as in "spoilers".

still, plenty of things you can do after dawnguard. run around with serana if you want, finish doing all the side quests of whatever faction your part of, finish exploring the hidden valley and completing all the misc quests. there is still a ton of stuff that people miss when playing through the game.

have you done side-quests for the Dwarven Crossbows and exploding bolts yet
T-REX-KNIGHT Aug 8, 2013 @ 10:06pm
did anyone here killed harkon as a werewolf?
i did ithat to make the ending feel more badass
Cat Daddy Aug 9, 2013 @ 4:59am
I did all the sidequests - even that pointless crap about getting the pages for that guy stuck in the soul carin.

The ending just feels bad like mass effect 3s was bad, sorry but you cant call a 3 minute powerpoint presentation an ending! that took them 4 months to make? WTF SERIOUSLY? its like 14 still images. The only good ending to mass effect 3 which makes any sense and that doesnt insult everything you did in Me1+2 is the ending mod.

The whole ending to dawnguard just felt like - well harkins dead....BYE...thanks for doing all the work i should have done (isran) considering i bang on about being a supreme vampire hunter...

Also is it just my game thats bugger or is this normal? Im a werewolf and i can still ask serana to turn me into a vampire......
I thourght if i was a werewolf i could NOT become a vampire and serana should die if she tried to bite me as i have werewolf blood
TheCainPack Aug 9, 2013 @ 8:50am
Nope, doesn't work that way in skyrim. You will just magically cease to be a werewolf if you opt to be a vampire, and vice versa. It's really a poor storytelling choice, but it's part of the dumbed down fanbase, not only do they want to be able to do everything but there should never be consequences to any choice, even becoming an undead monster with no heartbeat is reversable... yeah.
lmao I know this is so old, apologies.

But I thought it was crap too. the way the devs think you really care about Serana annoyed me too, after you've only spent 20 mins with her. its like they tried to put in a twilight love interest, but I have no idea where the connection between her and the player is meant to come from, its certainly not her AI or the fact she is weaker than the sell-sword from the silver-blood inn in markarh.

and the way the faction choice hardly matters, you end up running of with her to do some other crap anyway, i was expecting a raid on the fort or more to do with the vigilants of stendarr.

and after all that shes just a moany hot teenager who you cant even marry or develop your relationship with. she would rather live with vampire hunters then in the players home? lmao.

but the snow-elf bit was good.

Not that different to the main dragon quest. It barely gets a mention afterwards.
Uncle64 Jun 9, 2018 @ 6:51am
About Serana, there is stuff that Betz did not add and are in the game already but not active.
And she is not that weak. She is not one tank.
DrNewcenstein Jun 9, 2018 @ 9:37am
I jacked up her spells so they actually deal damage, because I got tired of seeing her surrounded by Draugr and her wimpy little Drain Life spell wasn't actually draining their life.
Now she sucks them down like a Master Vampire should.

I also changed her Chain Lightning to Thunderbolt, so she'd stop hitting everyone else when vampire attacks spawned in the cities.

But yeah, the ending is a bit thin, and the whole thing seems rushed from start to finish, especially once she gets involved. "Let's go find this, let's go find that," on and on. If you observe the front yard of Fort Dawnguard, they're adding more fences and gates, and you eventually get a few refugees who are camping out front, complaining about not being let into the Fort.

I was working on a mod some years ago where the idea was to either supplement the ending, or stretch out the Dawnguard storyline thing over a longer period of time.

Isran would mention the growing number of refugees looking for protection, but there not being enough room in the Fort. After a couple of days away, you'd get a message calling you back to the Fort, and would find an opening into a small cavern that led to the rest of the original Castle of Riften, built by the Jarl in the 2nd Era, that was meant to be the gateway between Skyrim and Morrowind, and was intended to encompass Riften.
It would turn out that Fort Dawnguard was just the outer wall of the Castle.

I had also intended there to be a Quest surrounding the place, telling the origin of the original Dawnguard, where by the end of it, you had restored access to the Castle, which was in fact already turning into Riften City, including the huge courtyard which at one time was a thriving marketplace as well as the main public area (blacksmith, vendors of all sorts, and even parts of the Castle where the citizens dwelled and an area where the City Guards trained.

Then Isran would say "We can use this," and bring the refugees inside the walls, where they'd build it back up like it used to be - grow crops, tend livestock, etc. From there you could expand the Dawnguard into a veritable army, which you'd actually see out in the world fighting vampires like you see the Imperial vs Stormcloak spawns.

But the limitations of the Dawnguard meshes and the lack of voice actors, Scripting, Quest-making, the passing of my brother in 2016, and life in general kinda sunk those plans.
Still might do it as a 3D graphic novel, though, if I can get the clothing made for Daz Studio.

I finally got around to this after years of procrastinating. The end is such an anticlimax that I didn't realise it was the end of the DLC!
