Personally, I actually didn't mind the ending too much. It wasn't anything too grand, but it was just the satisfaction of finishing it that made me feel accomplished. Then again, I'm also one of the people who actually kind of liked the ending to Mass Effect 3. Sure, it wasn't the greatest thing ever, but I still enjoyed it. And the free DLC they put out for it expanded on the ending even more.
The first thing in the body of the post is "SPOILER ALERT" in all caps.
EDIT: Also, when you see a post with the title of "Dawnguard ending - so...that's it then?" you should probably assume that there's going to be, I don't know, information on the ending - as in "spoilers".
i did ithat to make the ending feel more badass
The ending just feels bad like mass effect 3s was bad, sorry but you cant call a 3 minute powerpoint presentation an ending! that took them 4 months to make? WTF SERIOUSLY? its like 14 still images. The only good ending to mass effect 3 which makes any sense and that doesnt insult everything you did in Me1+2 is the ending mod.
The whole ending to dawnguard just felt like - well harkins dead....BYE...thanks for doing all the work i should have done (isran) considering i bang on about being a supreme vampire hunter...
Also is it just my game thats bugger or is this normal? Im a werewolf and i can still ask serana to turn me into a vampire......
I thourght if i was a werewolf i could NOT become a vampire and serana should die if she tried to bite me as i have werewolf blood
But I thought it was crap too. the way the devs think you really care about Serana annoyed me too, after you've only spent 20 mins with her. its like they tried to put in a twilight love interest, but I have no idea where the connection between her and the player is meant to come from, its certainly not her AI or the fact she is weaker than the sell-sword from the silver-blood inn in markarh.
and the way the faction choice hardly matters, you end up running of with her to do some other crap anyway, i was expecting a raid on the fort or more to do with the vigilants of stendarr.
and after all that shes just a moany hot teenager who you cant even marry or develop your relationship with. she would rather live with vampire hunters then in the players home? lmao.
but the snow-elf bit was good.
And she is not that weak. She is not one tank.
Now she sucks them down like a Master Vampire should.
I also changed her Chain Lightning to Thunderbolt, so she'd stop hitting everyone else when vampire attacks spawned in the cities.
But yeah, the ending is a bit thin, and the whole thing seems rushed from start to finish, especially once she gets involved. "Let's go find this, let's go find that," on and on. If you observe the front yard of Fort Dawnguard, they're adding more fences and gates, and you eventually get a few refugees who are camping out front, complaining about not being let into the Fort.
I was working on a mod some years ago where the idea was to either supplement the ending, or stretch out the Dawnguard storyline thing over a longer period of time.
Isran would mention the growing number of refugees looking for protection, but there not being enough room in the Fort. After a couple of days away, you'd get a message calling you back to the Fort, and would find an opening into a small cavern that led to the rest of the original Castle of Riften, built by the Jarl in the 2nd Era, that was meant to be the gateway between Skyrim and Morrowind, and was intended to encompass Riften.
It would turn out that Fort Dawnguard was just the outer wall of the Castle.
I had also intended there to be a Quest surrounding the place, telling the origin of the original Dawnguard, where by the end of it, you had restored access to the Castle, which was in fact already turning into Riften City, including the huge courtyard which at one time was a thriving marketplace as well as the main public area (blacksmith, vendors of all sorts, and even parts of the Castle where the citizens dwelled and an area where the City Guards trained.
Then Isran would say "We can use this," and bring the refugees inside the walls, where they'd build it back up like it used to be - grow crops, tend livestock, etc. From there you could expand the Dawnguard into a veritable army, which you'd actually see out in the world fighting vampires like you see the Imperial vs Stormcloak spawns.
But the limitations of the Dawnguard meshes and the lack of voice actors, Scripting, Quest-making, the passing of my brother in 2016, and life in general kinda sunk those plans.
Still might do it as a 3D graphic novel, though, if I can get the clothing made for Daz Studio.
