How to Defeat Dwarven Spheres - Tower of Mzark?
I can't get past the two Dwarven Spheres in the Tower of Mzark. Sprinting past them just gets me trapped at the gate, facing a couple spiders there as well. Facing the two of them alone just gets me killed. I even tried cornering them in the corridor just past the chamber where they appear, to see if I can fight them one at a time, but I always end up fighting both of them together. The Spheres seem immune to shouts, flames, and the sword (two-handed) or arrows I have fought them with have no effect at all. I can kill the spiders with my sword, but I can't do anything against the Spheres.

Is there any way to kill these and get on with the game? What am I doing wrong? I'd appreciate any help.

I'm a noob (LVL 16, Dragonborn) so I may not have the skills I need at this point. I made it this far, though.

I'm so frustrated at this point that I'm about to give up on Skyrim and go do something else.

Sounds like some kind of glitch. I know that a lot of people (me included) are against "cheating", but I think that something like this would warrant the use of the console.

Open the console (hit the "~" key), click on one of the spheres, type "kill" without the quotes, repeat for the other, then hit the "~" key again. That should just automatically kill both of them. Of course, that's technically using "cheats". If you don't want to do that, then try going to an earlier save file.

Thanks! I'll try that tomorrow. (Late here, and I've had enough for one night.) I didn't know the 'console' existed, so thanks for that info as well.

Since there may be more stuff I'm still absolutely clueless about and need to discover, how did you find out about the console?

Well, it's essentially the place to enter cheat codes for Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and I THINK maybe Morrowind (haven't played it enough to know for sure). Just about every person who plays Bethesda games on the PC know about the console. Heck, I even knew about it before I switched from Xbox to PC. Honestly, I'm surprised you haven't heard anyone mention it before.

Get yourself a good bow for range attacks, and use sneak, take a good follower, if your stuggling with spheres, you'll have a hard time of it when you get a centurion....Also drop to a lower level of gameplay if you can....You don't need the console to get through there...

Did you not read the first post? The OP said they can't damage them with a sword, bow, magic, or shouts. This tells me that it's some kind of glitch, not something that can be fixed by simply lowering the difficulty. Of course, I have nothing against low difficulty levels (I play on novice or apprentice about 99% of the time). I just don't think that's a fix for this problem.

So would it not be a better idea to find the cause of it, i've just gone through there on legendary, it wasn't easy but i had no probs like that...

My point is you don't need the console, you can either load an earlier save or backtrack out and go back later...Chances are it will fix it..Hopefully

Unfortunately, the console option didn't work. (I could kill one that way but not both. Either I wasn't fast enough, or the game would only let me kill one that way.) Thanks anyway for telling me about the trick and the console. I later tried going in through the Alftand Ruined Tower, but there's no way to get in from there, at least that I was able to find. I did find a Dwarven Sphere there and killed it easily with my two-handed sword.

I'm really a noob at gaming, at least recently. I did a little several years ago, but the games then didn't really interest me. I've now been playing Skyrim for about 3 weeks total at this point. I know nothing about how they're constructed, even though I've done a lot with computers in other applications.

I'd completely forgotten about lowering the difficulty level! I've been playing the default. I'll set it to 'novice' and give it another go. If that doesn't work, I'll put off getting the 'Elderscroll' until sometime later. The (real) world won't come to an end if I never complete it.

Thanks, [KL*KNoSC] DerAlleinTiger and pariah! I genuinely appreciate your help!

This is your answer. With decent archery skills you will likely be able to one-shot spheres if you hit them before they open up. Berserking is cool and all but archery is smart.

(It's also wickedly over-powered in this game)

I very much agree. I generally rely heavily on archery but when I tried it on the spheres for some reason I couldn't shoot them fast enough. I'll keep that in mind though, and will return to this quest when I level up a bit more. I'm going to back up to an earlier save (to just after I got to Mzark so I can fast-travel to it later). Game Guide says the Tower of Mzark [3.18] has a recommended level of 18. I'm 16 right now (may be 15 when I go back to the previous save), so I feel a bit better about my ineptitude. I'll do Solstheim first, and level up a bit more before I go back to Mzark.

Thanks, all.
For me, it turned out my difficulty was set way to high
