Triggers Not Triggering Properly, Especially The Golden Claw Quest
I got the big Skyrim bundle during the summer sale and I've installed it, but I've got a problem with my game. Whenever I try to do the Golden Claw quest in Riverwood, it starts normally with Camilla going outside and pointing at Bleak Falls Barrow, then she starts walking up the road. Just outside of the inn, though, she stops and looks at me, and she won't move apart from turning to look at me. No matter what I do, if I leave her alone for a while or go away, she won't start going again.

When I first installed Skyrim I tested it briefly to make sure it worked, then installed mods one at a time, testing to make sure they all worked, and they seemed to. Then this happened the first time. I started removing all my mods, until I had none, but it made no difference. Then I uninstalled the game, deleted all the mods and excess content, everything, started from scratch with a new character. Still has the problem.

At this point I don't know WHAT to do. I reluctantly looked at the UESP page for the quest and this isn't listed as a known bug. Additionally, during the escape from Helgen with Ralof, at the spider encounter, the large spiders just stayed in mid-air instead of decending when the smaller spiders did. They only decended when Ralof started shooting them with his bow. So, I figure there's a problem with the triggering.

I'm not using any mods or anything now, not even the Unofficial Patches or the Skyrim Script Extender.

Does anybody have any idea what I could do?

It's not that it's just a problem with this quest, if it's happening here it can happen anywhere. I want to get to the root of the problem and fix it. During one of the first tries, before I took all my mods off, I had the same problem with Ralof during the escape from Helgen, except he eventually stopped standing still and caught up with me at a later point; my guess is a later trigger superceded the one he was stuck on.

She did this for me too, after waiting a while I just walked to the bridge that she is supposed to take you to at the end of town and that got her moving again. Don't even know if it matters, she doesn't go past that anyway. Just go do the quest.

I've actually encountered this problem before as well. It annoyed me a bit, but it really doesn't matter. Just continue out of town and across the bridge. From there take the path left up the mountain.

I think she may have had a similar issue for me, but I just stayed at a decent pace behind her, and she walked to the bridge, pointed the way, and walked back on her own. Nevermind the fact that you can ignore her and just go do the quest.

As for the spiders... hey, free target practice! They'll hit the floor. Y'know, when they die.

do the start of the main questline, talk to the jarl of whiterun, he will get you to talk to farengar the court wizard and he will send you on a quest to bleakfalls barrow to get the dragonstone, once at bleakfalls barrow you will fight a big spider, then you cut down a guy caught up in a spider web-he has the golden claw, once you have it, it will trigger ''find the owner'' of the claw.

So, you'd get a quest to go there anyways. Still, it doesn't solve my triggering problem. :/

I'd just like to say here and now; Skyrim is often fickle. Glitches are everywhere (although patches do cut down on some nastier ones... at times), and you can't expect everything to flow smoothly at all times. Shoot, right now I'm trying to retrieve a stray dog companion that has vanished for no reason on me (and for the 2nd time).

Also, those issues are very minor at best. You can ignore Camilla showing the way and just head up to Bleak Falls Barrow. It shouldn't hurt in anyway, and you aren't missing much. And the spiders not coming down until Ralof shoots them? Take it as an unintentional advantage, kill the spiders, and move on.

1: I never had Camila follow me, her brother doesn't want her to go and talks her out of it.
2: The quest is not broken, I always went in alone, and finished the quest without a problem. Well there were problems, but just with figuring out how to beat powerful foes early in the game. Just go ahead. Good luck!
