Multiculturalism or Skyrim is for the Nords

Picture this:

There is a land, Skyrim, where the Nords have lived for countless generations. Then the Empire comes, murders and massacres men, women and children and imposes its laws and its will on the land, Skyrim, and its inhabitants, the Nords.

Then massive waves of immigration of the shifty, thieving Khajits, the up to no good drug using Argonians, the violent Redguard, the look down your noses at you Bretons and Imperials come from all over and take what used to be for the Nords, displacing the proud people and taking their homes, their land, their jobs...

The Nords have settled this harsh land for generations and have built it up from scratch.

Then the Empire comes, slaughters thousands and forces untold numers of other races to come in and disposses the Nords, kicking them out from their own land, homes, towns and cities, and jobs...

Anybody protesting this is called a bigot and a racist, and besides, the Empire is none too gentle - in fact, the immigration of all others into Skyrim is encouraged to break the Nords and have a more pliable population in the province.

Divide and Rule, the first law of the powerful.

Now, here comes the Prisoner, and due to an Imperial official not wanting to bother with paperwork and bureaucracy, is going to be killed anyway, even though every Imperial (and Nord) there knows that it is a mistake and not right.

And after almost being killed due to an Imperial bureacracy out of control, by an Imperial, who represents everything that is wrong in Skyrim - the Imperials, ruling over everything with viciousness, iron hand and with no laws but the whim of the Imperial elite over everybody...

Who import huge numbers of others to take over what the Nords have built for generations and take it away from them.

Who kill innocent people on a whim (including your player character).

Who stole the Nords' land, the whole country, and now are busy replacing them with a more pliable population?

After all that, the Prisoner is expected to join the side of the Imperials?

Who would do that, really?

One would have to be not right in the head or simply very evil to join the Empire over the people who are fighting to get their land, their country, their honor back.

Whoever the best, strongest social group dominates can do whatever they want with the rest. If there are trerritories to defend, or Gain...may the strongest group survive..Natural selection... 99% of all life lives this way...

Confrontational groups of animals fight for dominance over territory...there really is no racism issue to fuss over in fact...So I don't see why it should be any different for Nords and other social groups to fight over territory....Whether that is to defend it OR expand...


Also, you can go back to before the Nords came and settled...They are not native of Skyrim, but from a continent further North, across the sea..

good post OP. i usually pick stormcloaks because if empire controls every nation then there will be less diversity in culture and laws etc in the elder scrolls world. but your post makes me want to help them more.

Exactly! Didn't the Nords drive out the Snow Elves or something when they first arrived? So that the Falmer were forced to flee to the mountains and to the Dwemer?

To all those band wagonists...you call Nords Racist...what about the Elves being opressive towards Talos Worship???..

.that's like being discriminatory towards a culture's religious beleifs!

A good story plot for a game is conflict...but it can get too political and cause actual controversy linked to RL crap...I prefer Dragon Racing....we need that......

Because they weren't always so isolationist. If they had been they'd have never let the Dunmer in in the first place or given them Solstheim (big chunk of inhospitable ice that it is).

A point that's sometimes missing in all of this is that half of Skyrim wants to stay with the Empire. Ulfric doesn't represent those people anymore than the Empire represents the people who want Skyrim to be autonomous. As someone said earlier these things are never simple. (er. Sort of half replying to the wrong thread... doh)

Not all elves, just the Thalmor. Not even all of the Altmer are Thalmor.

The Snow Elves attacked them first wanting the Eye of Magnus and Ysgramor swore vengeance(they massacred an entire city and many villages) so he went back to Atmora and came back with a much.....larger force.

They wiped the snow elf forces out and secured their place then Ysgramor stopped but his people continued to kill them until they died out excepting a select few.

1. The Nords established the Empire, before Morrowind all the people who fell under the "Imperial" designation were Nords, the Imperial race was invented in Morrowind.

2. The Nords as a people (or even part of the people) have only ever been opposed to the Empire in Skyrim.

3. The Empire would only be suppressing Talos worship (not killing people) if Ulfric hadn't killed the king. The Thalmor are the cruel Empire that fits your description (who have the Imperials under control, yet Ulfric is actually furthering thier desires).

As to why you would join the Empire, Hadvar actually stands between you and Alduin as you get up from the executioners block, and (if you are roleplaying) you could be an Imperial loyalist.
