*HELP* No sound in Skyrim at all
Okay, if there's already discussions about this - and I'm sure there are - I'm sorry. But I need some help A.S.A.P.

Skyrim played perfectly fine last night... No issues with the sound then, nothing. Then suddenly, I get on today, and there's no sound on my game at all... Not on the Bethesda screem, not on the Skyrim logo, not in game or anything. I'm really mad... I've never had these issues before. I have the same mods and DLCs I had a few months back. I've already checked my mixer and all volumes are on. I've checked in game sound and all's on. I've tried updating my audio drivers and I have no updates. I've verified the game cache on Steam and it said there was one failed file and that it would fix it or whatever... I had a corrupted save yesterday, but loaded an older one and all seemed fine. About a week ago, the Unofficial Skyrim Patch was conflicting and I couldn't absorb dragon souls. But again, I fixed that.

I'm at my wit's end and beyond frustrated. I could really use some help. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I tried launching it again, and on the Bethesda screen and Skyrim load screen, it had sound... Then I get on the game and there's no sound at all. I exited to desktop, got back on, and once again no sound on any of the screens or in-game...

ZIP or RAR your entire Skyrim directory and save to a different location. Then, delete everything in there eseentially forcing you to re-download everything from scratch. Once Steam gets everything back, configure your settings correctly and play (with NO MODS) and see if that helps.

Worst case is you just have to wait for it to download, but if it works consistently with no mods installed you can be sure it is a conflicting mod.

do not listen to the above post , that's just crazy ,

1st verify that sound works in other steam games
do you have mods installed that add or change music ,sounds ,in the game ?
that includes mods that add or change dialog

I only recommend that first because it's the surest way to determine if it's a mod. He could spend hours troubleshooting individual things like I have in the past.

I'm assuming he's already tried other games and sounds on the desktop work fine. But who knows...

First thing I would try is close and then restart steam since this has fixed no sound for me with Skyrim fairly recently. If this fails then do a PC restart. Finally if still not working go into Skyrim folder then DX10 folder and then click on the DX10setup app.

i bet he fixed it already , probably something simple like muted speakers or wrong input source

Thank you all for all the help! (: I really appreciate it. I actually restarted my computer and it ended up working fine after that. I don't know what the problem was, but at least it's fixed for now.

Thanks again!

I thought I had the same problem, but then I had to laugh at myself as it turns out I muted my pc. :D

I'm having this problem on unmodded Skyrim SE. It is NOT a mod. Using the advice on pike's video made it unstable and worse.

A suggestion. Backup your saves, then reinstall the game. Maybe it will help?

I’m having this issue as of right now. No mods, drivers up to date, uninstalled reinstalled, restart, you name it I did it. There is sound when I load another game or even if I watch YouTube or something. It’s just Skyrim..

I just installed Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013, after installing and restarting all works fine. Maybe in your case needed some other versions 2010, 2015...

My problem does not completely coincide with the topic, but it is very similar. The sound in Skyrim completely disappeared only in the speakers, some of the sounds disappeared through the headphones. In my case, this problem was solved after installing the latest versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) and (x64) from the Microsoft website
