How to Install SKSE
EDIT:
There is a self-installing version of SKSE available at Silverlock called

skse_1_06_16_installer.exe.

If you are a PC TechnoNoob, I recommend using that instead of the *.7z file.

Download skse_1_xx_xx_installer.exe.
Double-click on it and it should install into the default location.
You can change the installation path if you need to.

~.~

EDIT 2
Check the date of my original post.

The version of SKSE has been updated and the version number is now higher. You have to use the most recent version.

But if you use the self-installer, it should install to the correct place.

Also BOSS has been superseded by a new utility.

I have not played Skrim since about February, 2014, so you'd be better of going to the Nexus forums.

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/414-skyrim-technical-support/[/b]

The best thing about the PC version of Skyrim (apart from better graphics) is the fact you can use the console and install mods. But many of the best mods (or certainly the larger and more complex mods) require SKSE, the Skyrim Script Extender, so better use can be made of Papyrus.

But many people say it is complex to install. Well, the old read me files for it WERE a little confusing for complete noobs, so here is An Idiots' Guide.

Manual Installation
(See above for automatic installation - DO NOT USE NMM - SKSE is NOT a Mod!)

Download SKSE from here:
http://skse.silverlock.org/

Put skse_1_06_16.7z on your desktop, right click, "extract here" and it unzips into it's own folder, skse_1_06_16 (you will need WinZip, WinRAR or similar program).

(EDIT latest version is skse_1_06_16 - always use the latest version)

Then copy
skse_loader.exe
skse_1_9_32.dll
skse_steam_loader.dll

into
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim

DO NOT put them in the DATA folder where mods go.

Copy the DATA folder in the Unzipped SKSE folder into:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim

and it will add the scripts you'll need.
Everyone needs the *.pex files in Data\Scripts\.
The *.psc files in Data\Scripts\Source\ are needed for creating or compiling Papyrus scripts with the CK.

On your desktop, make a shortcut to skse_loader.exe, launch Steam, double click your short cut and you're off.

Totally recommended.

For me, with a keyboard and mouse, the PC version is unplayable without SkyUI and Categorized Favorites Menu.

SkyUI changes the interface to be so much more PC-friendly - unless you have a controller and can make the default interface work.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3863/

If you prefer to use a controller there is also SkyUI-Away which lets you use MCM and the SkyUI features without the changes to the interface layout, which I think is configurable.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29440/

~

Also, BOSS will help with mod load order - not perfect, but it helps a lot.

I am not affiliated to any of these mods or their authors, I just use them and the supposed complexity of installing SKSE came up in another thread.

Mine is different to the order thats above, but when I open the skyrim folder go down page and its there?? I agree with Shadowblade go to start > search > type in TESV.exe (it may be hidden).
Sorry my internet server is bugging me at the moment won't be fixed for 3 more days. Basically all I can get is steam main page and sometimes the forum.
Jakcman have you a friend who plays have a look at their folder maybe get a copy of TESV.EXE
and paste into your skyrim folder(Desperate measures sometimes call for desperate solutions)
This is if you can't find it but verify your game first again, maybe steam may do an update.
Cheers

I think the original SKSE installation README from Silverlock mentions the same folder where TESV.exe is located only to distinguish it from other folder paths to a Skyrim folder.

The important thing is that SKSE is installed into
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim

Any other Skyrim folder is incorrect.

The default location for installing Steam and Skyrim in Windows 7 is Program Files (x86), but you may have installed it in Program Files instead.

Program Files (x86) is for 32 bit programs
Program Files is for 64 bit programs.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim - CORRECT!

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Skyrim - WRONG!

C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Skyrim -WRONG!

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Skyrim - WRONG!

Mine is different to the order thats above

The precise folders you will see depends on what mods you have installed.
The order of files in the folders will depend on whether you have sorted them by Name, Date or Type.

The important thing (which has been said more than 20 times and is why I thought Jakcman was a troll) is that SKSE is installed into:

...\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim

But if he downloaded the installer, he just needs to double-click on it and it's installed automatically if Skyrim is installed in the default location.

Also, this sort of confusion can be caused by Windows hiding files, file extensions and directory paths and imposing those mindless libraries on top of everything. It really makes user control much more difficult.

That's why Bill Gates should be beaten to death with a pink foam rubber baseball bat.

I followed the directions completely and when I went to launch the SKSE loader i got an error message saying "the program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I took all the files I added out and followed the steps and got this message again. I searched in my computer if that file exists and i found it and put it in the Skyrim folder but when i launch the SKSE it says the same error. Anyone know what to do?

Have you ever added or removed anything from either your data folder or any folder for that matter?
DreadWife 2013 年 9 月 14 日 上午 11:19
I did not remove anything. This was the first time I even touched a steam folder or even the Skyrim folder

MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer.

I searched in my computer if that file exists and i found it and put it in the Skyrim folder but when i launch the SKSE it says the same error.

Why did you do that?

NEVER move or delete files unless you really understand what you are doing really, really well.

Did you delete the file with the teddy bear icon when that viral spam came round a few years back?

MSVCR110.dll is part of the Microsoft Visual C++ package, so you need to install that again if it is not working properly.

PS which OS are you running?

Thank you for the help, downloading that file helped the SKSE to work :)

That was after I launched the game and it said it was missing so I assumed it was a missing file from installing SKSE

I just installed SKSE. Seems to have installed fine. How will I know if it's running? One of the install videos shows text in the upper left corner of the main screen. I don't have that. Thanks for your replies.
