FIXED--An Unofficial Skyrim Patch Issue
EDIT: The culprit does indeed seem to be the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. Fixed after uninstall/reinstall of patch. See my second post.

My issue was:
I finally went back into my game after a couple of weeks playing something else, and I found a strange glitch. I had a few iron arrows in my inventory (so did my companion). The graphic for them now is a red block with an exclamation point. It's the only thing in my inventory that has this. It's the same way in my companion's. If I equip or drop them, only a huge red cube shows up and I can't do anything else with it.

I've verified my local file integrity. I've gone back to two previous saves. Doesn't help. I've restarted the game, Steam, and my computer. I only have a few mods installed and nothing that would affect these arrows--unless it's the Unofficial Patches or Bethesda's HD Texture Packs, which I've had installed from way before. I haven't installed anything new or messed with these arrows at all.

Ok, before resorting to a uninstall/reinstall process, I decided to check my mods. I found that the problem is most likely the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. With all other mods still active and only that one inactive, the red triangles went away. When I reactivated it, the issue was back. So something has gotten corrupted in that patch.

I have deleted the patch and will redownload and install again. My Unofficial Hearthfire and Dawnguard patches seem to be ok, but I'm wondering if I should reinstall them also. Well, one at a time, anyway!

No one else has had an issue with the Unofficial Patches lately?

EDIT: Reinstalled the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, and everything is fine now. Load order was correct. Somehow, with one update or another, something got bugged. But I trust the Unofficial Patches and prefer to use them.

While working on this issue, I noticed that they also have an Unofficial Patch to fix bugs with the HD Texture DLC, which I also use. I'm going to check that out. Who knows, there might have been a conflict with the HD DLC and the Unofficial patch which caused my issue.

I've had ongoing Inventory and Equipping issues with lots of back and forth troubleshooting with Bethsoft Support. (Steam sent to Bethsoft since Skyrim is "Third Party" to Valve :( ). When I finish with "no SKSE or Mods allowed for Support" dialog with Bethsoft, I'll look for the HD Texture DLC Unofficial Patch. Is it in Steam Skyrim Workshop?

if you start to have problems with unoffical patches and mods, try validating the game cache before uninstalling, sometimes that is all you need to de the red exclamation is usually a texture error.

sorry i see that you did validate kind of strange cause when i used the unoffical patches no problems with anything maybe a mod confliction.

As far as skse mods are concered Skse is very buggy, but is an awesome tool if you can get it to wrok correctly problem is alot of scripting involved and alot of mods that rely on skse seem to cnflict with each if not in proper load order, i am sure you know about this but i would check the Skyrim Nexus forums and the site in genral for troubleshooting guides. They have been modding longer then steam and work with other variations of script extenders.

@ jlconrod: yes, I saw the Unofficial High Resolution Patch here:

On Nexus: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31255/?

@ OhHero!!!: yeah, validating the cache helped with one issue I had in the past, but not this time. I actually validated twice before starting to single out mods.

Yes, I think it was just some weird conflict. The unofficial patches are well-made mods.

It might be at Nexus; I haven't checked.

OOOh i hate when i have to do that with singling out mods toooooo many to mess with:). I is very tedious but has to be done. I hope everything is sorted out:)

While boss may be a good sorting tool don't always depend on it it can majorly mess up our load order. sorry for soo many posts no more from me:)

The sorting actually wasn't bad. Given the types of mods I have right now, I figured it had to be the patches or the HD High Resolution DLC. Nothing else I have affects weapon textures or meshes.
