Skyrim vs. Oblivion leveling system
I've played Skyrim before on the Xbox 360, but I couldn't get into it as much as Oblivion because the leveling system was so drastically different. It seems like in Oblivion, the higher your level, the stronger the enemies get, so you never feel overwhelmed or underwhelmed. It feels like the game was getting harder as you got better.

In Skyrim though, I remember being level 3 and nearly getting mauled by a troll on my way to an early part of the main quest. Recently, I've been playing a lot of Oblivion lately, and I'm willing to give Skyrim another go if it goes on sale. Before I do though, I want to know how different and how simular the leveling system on those two game are to each other.

well in skyrim you level up as your skill progress same as oblivion but in oblivion you need to sleep to level up which is why in skyrim sleep is useless especially if you are werewolf

In Oblivion (and Morrowind) only main skills contribute to your level. However you are stuck to level Secondary skills as much as you can through super careful planning path if you actually want to maximise attribute points per level OR you gonna suck on higher difficulty.
In Skyrim all skills contribute to your level.

In Oblivion, all mobs are leveled.
In Skyrim mobs are leveled but there is a min lvl and a max lvl. Giants start at lvl 20. This is to mimic the older TES. Due to mobs in Morrowind mostly are not leveled, you are not forced to max attribute per level because you are not going to have 2 mins fight with a Rat.

I actually dislike all kinds of levelscaling from enemies - especially so when the same goes for the loot. So I much prefer the Morrowind style. I actually even liked the combat there. I'm not going to say that it was BETTER, but it was DIFFERENT. Only thing I didn't like in Morrowind is the sneak system. I don't know why, but I seem to have a real hard time with it even when I'm naked and have max sneak.

I'd say to a degree I like Skyrim better than Oblivion. Though not necessarially what skill simplification they chose.

Class I'd say should have remained, but only with major skills and having it give a bonus to how you learn those skills and maybe giving you can extra perk specific to those trees.

Also I would have liked to see legendary do more than a leveling up engine (better than oblivion forcing you to accrue jail time to further level), but I'm not sure what maybe it being a specific passive bonus to the effectiveness of the skill or reducing the skill level needed for perks on secondary levelings.

i liked obilivian leveling system cause going to sleep and leveling up was cool, but now in skyrim its different and also no hand to hand skill or acrobatics or athletics totally sucked
at least the sneak style was sort of cool in skryim with the cinematic knife kills was cool

Leveling systems make game more interesting and challenging. Play any game that havent it (for example KoAR) and you will be bored, because there's no point to return in previous locations, create potions etc. I've tried oblivion without level scaling and I must say it is pretty boring. At the begin the game is challenging and even the small group of bandits or bear could break your adventure and make you press quickload button, but when you level 30 you kill everyone with 1 hit and the game becomes boring. I agree, oblivions level scaling isnt perfect, but it is better than nothing. Morrowind have level scaling as well, if you dont believe me, you can check dark brotherhood assassins that visits you when you sleep. At high levels he is very hard to kill and he wears powerful items. And the spawn rate of creatures increases with your level and when you're level 30 you can meet many hounds and other animals even near seida nin.
