is a place to start for base values of swords, but if you stay with base values for the whole game, then it's not gonna be very good at all. Vanilla swords are generally the best because of speed. Several addons change values to make combat more interesting and fun.
Another thing worth mentioning would be enchanting, wich on higher levels, can turn even the most measly weapon into a killing machine.
One interesting thing that the dragonborn dlc added is stalhrim equipment, whereas both armor and weapons benefit 25% more from frost/chaos type enchantments.
but on terms of unique one-handed swords,i would say it depends alot on circumstances, for example, the dawnbreaker is excellent to fight any kinds of undead due to its unique enchantment, wich has a chance of causing a blast that will turn all undead in the area, even more powerful enemies like draugr deathlords and volkihar vampires are affected by it,wich makes it an excellent choice for clearing out areas with many undead enemies.
Another sword i frequently use myself would be miraak's sword, due to the fact that it's base damage surpasses dragonbone and daedric weapons, but it's enchantment leaves something to be desired,a mere absorb stamina isn't exactly a worthy enchantment for the weapon of a immensely powerful individual such as miraak, atleast from where i'm standing.
Well that is my opinion on the topic,i hope i helped clear up the subject for you,and i wish you good luck on your adventures in skyrim.
As for the best sword, I imagine it depends on what you are doing. If you are a vampire, Harkons sword might be your cup of tea. If you are killing all of the undead at the moment, dawnbreaker is worth consideration as are silver weapons at lower levels (+20 damage to undead, vampires, and wearwolves plus room for an enchant, but can't be improved).
I keep it simple. I have two main swords. One steals souls, the other does fire damage (currently applied to ebony swords). These can get me through most situations I find. As time goes on, I'll find enchantments I like and apply it to my newly made weapons. Why search for an ideal weapon when I can craft them myself.
1- improve blacksmith at level max then the same thing with enchantment.
2- you have to build your own blacksmith armor at max as possible (with the most powerful potion for blacksmith before building armor)
3-when you have built your armor you build your daedric sword with increase blacksmith potion.
the most i have found and it's very very rare it's increase by 50% blacksmith.
4- Now Built your great armor with enchantments for increase attacks in order to make bonus to your sword. If your make skill two handed sword at max level you have more bonus powerful so you can have a sword near 200 in damage.
I do that but very very long hours to make that. But of course you can search on mods and you can find the sword of destruction (daedric sword) with near 240 dmg or 340dmg ( i don't remember exactly).
The one by Zim or the one by Prothescar? (trying to find them on Nexus)
Now they're ALL the best swords! :D
