Max number of saves
I have Skyrim on windows. Can only have 12 saves, after that it starts overriding pervious saves. Im trying to play 3 different charecters but if I go through a dugeon the autosaves overwrite my other charecters. How can I incease my max number of saves to 100 or more. Please for the love of all that is good in this world dont post if you dont have useful info, no onewants to read 27 "I dont knows" or " I have 1000 saves" doesnt help and no one cares.wa

You can have as many "manual" saves as you want. Just click on the "New Save" at the top of the save menu.

Just trying to clarify.

You can only make 12 hard saves? (open the menu and hit save saves?)

The other thing is that autosaves will always overright the last autosave. Quicksaves too. The game doesn't care if it's a different character. So for playing different characters, either look into a save manager, like this:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15

or back up your saves to another labeled folder and drop them in your My Games / saves folder when you want to play that character.

Hope that made sense.

I have thousands of saves, so I'd also suggest you don't sync with the cloud as I believe there is a limit to the numbers of saves there. I always play off-line as well and they save on my hard drive in:

C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

Never rely on Auto Save or Quick Save. They WILL overwrite if they are in the same folder, so I'd take the saves for different characters and put them in a different folder.

You can also use the console to give your saves a meaningful name. IIRC, press ` (to the left of 1) to open the console, then type

save "charactername001" or whatever you want to call it.

Dont hit return if you have only typed "save" as it writes a pile of data to disk and takes ages.

There is also a saved game manager mod on the Nexus last time I looked for managing different characters.

no 12 total save including autosaves. Ill gp through a dungeon or quest with character and the autosaves will over write my other charecter.
Im thinking its gotta be a setting in skyrimprefs.ini but I am not sure.
I have given my saves names before but for some reason I can only have 12?

Your autosaves will overide previous ones as previously mentioned. If you swap to a new character, why arn't you creating a manual save prior to the swap over?

I'm finding it odd that you can only have 12 saves including the auto and quick saves.

Edit: I did a quick google and it seems there isn't a limit to saves. Some say 1k is the magic number but IDK. I could not find others who are having a similar issue. I guess all I can sugest is make sure you create a manual save when swapping characters.

thats why i am here, Have no idea why I only have 12 total saves. I have plenty hard drive space? Manuel save priority never heard of that. explain.

I can't think of any reason to limit the number of saves to 12 unless it is something to do with cloud syncing, which I never use.

I've not actually played Skyrim for a few months (and my single character ls level 63, 450 hours), but are there points in the game which autosave at a key point? I can't think of why there are 12.

If you look at Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini, make sure they are the ones in

C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

Any others in other locations are default backups. Make copies as BAKSkyrim.ini and BAKSkyrimprefs.ini before you change anything.

Mine are heavily tweaked for graphics etc, but all I can find for SAVE is

SkyrimPrefs.ini
[MAIN]
bSaveOnPause=1
bSaveOnTravel=1
bSaveOnWait=1
bSaveOnRest=1

[SaveGame]
fAutosaveEveryXMins=15.0000

but these can be set in the controls panel in-game.

I can't find anything on maxnumberofsaves or anything like that. If you find such a line, put a semi-colon in front (;), save it, load the game and try making a bunch of hard saves.

But move other characters into a different folder, or you'll lose them due to the autosaves!

Ah, that may be your problem.

When some people say "hard save" they mean saving the game manually, not using the Quick Save key or an autosave.

As I've not played for a while and I have heavily reassigned my keys, you need to get into the menu where you can see your saves - here you can select one to load, save or delete. Click on a new slot to save in and it will make a proper save. Your 13th!

^^^^ As above. Hit escape and select Create a New Save (words to that effect)

^^ Yes, I just logged off and launched the game and for me it's: ^^

ESC
SAVE
[New Save]

If you click on an existing save it will overwrite it, so click the top of the list where it says [New Save].

Just a bit of NooberError, we've all done it. ;-)

I have saves just before character creation in Helgen, before and just after levelling, and also just about everywhere else. Significant saves like levelups and mod testing I give a unique name with the console. I have over 4000, but I deleted most of the useless ones I don't need any more.
