showracemenu safe?

What can I change on the showracemenu and not lose anything skills on my character? Gender? Appearance? So far the only thing Ive heard about is that race can mess with you.

Race is pretty much the only thing that will mess up your character's stats. Once you've done your changes, you may notice that some of your Active Effects like racial resistances are missing. Simply saving and reloading will fix this.

It is safe to use but never ever use the conlose and showracemenu out in the open. Only do it inside an enclosed area like the breezehome away from anyone else.

I have heard that if your out in the open or near any NPC's that there is a possibility that the game will crash and corrupt your save file.

As you said, trying to change the race of your character with racemenu will reset many of your skill stats. Use it ONLY if you want to change physical appearance and sex, but don't even touch the race options.
If you want to change the race of your character and keep his/her skill stats, use the console command player.setrace <raceID> for example: <i>player.setrace nordrace</i> to become a nord.
Then, and just then, you can use showracemenu to modify the rest of the attributes (really, use it, since your character face will be a mess after the race change). You'll keep your skills, and only the race advantages will change.
I did it once, and didn't have any problem.
I have used the race menu various times outside in Whiterun and Solitude, while people is walking around (since I can see my characters better with sunlight) and my savefiles are safe.

the showracemenu has the problem that if you are in a place with alot of textures it will lockup or crash your game. easier way is to buy dawnguard and use the face changer its safer but will still crash if you have alot of textures
