Unplayable Dragonborn bug
Hey folks. I seem unable to advance at all in Dragonborn. Here's the story - I downloaded the content, then teleported to Windhelm, found the boat and set sail. At this point, the cultists hadn't attacked yet. So, i got to Solstheim and spoke to that mayor (or whatever he is - Adril, I think?). However, since the cultists never attacked me, I never had the Miraak dialogue come up. After travelling to Skyrim numerous times, the cultists still never showed (despite wandering around Riften for half an hour), so I ended up just finding the cultist orders item with google, used "player.additem" and I was able to start the quest. Seemed fine.

However, when I went to the first shrine by Raven Rock, Neloth never appeared like he was supposed to and no matter what I did the "investigate the shrine" quest never completed. So, I ignored it and went straight to the temple of Miraak at the heart of Solstheim. Same thing - the completion points never triggered, and so now I am unable to get any further. I assume it all had something to do with missing the initial cultist attack, but not sure.

Does anyone know how I can get around this?

Regards,
Huaroc

This forum has way too many trolls and people who really deny why their game has problems even after explaining it clearly. So I sent you a friend request, accept it and I'll go over some things.

Have you tried the Unofficial Patch for Dragonborn? I'm not sure that will fix things so late into the quest but it's worth a try. You could also use the console to teleport Neloth to where he's supposed to be and see if that triggers him. I hope you can figure out a fix.

That patch is unnecessary, and will further break your game using it. it's not made by Bethesda and it's not authorized by them either, that's because there is nothing wrong with Dragonborn.

That patch is nothing more than a band aid for the broken mess all the mods people are using caused. and eventually that patch will give you problems because you're using a band aid to correct something the band aid itself will break.

If people actually understood how the game was put together, they would understand why this holds true. But sadly people go to no end to say all sorts of excuses about this, and it's because as I said, they just simply don't know how the game is put together and all the damage one console used to fix something, can do to their game.

If you're interested in understanding why everyone has all these problems, accept my friend request and I'll go over it in detail.

Same goes for anyone else, instead of flaming me because you don't know, try listening to the explanation.

Install the Unofficial Patch, it will help with bugs you would have otherwise.

For your specific problem, try going to the temple in Raven Rock and speaking to the Elder there. If you're able to ask him about Miraak, it will make the quest progress to where you're supposed to go to the temple of Miraak, and bypass the inspection of the shrine.

I read on the UESP wiki that you won't be able to progress in the quest if you havent completed "The Way of the Voice", thus being recognized as Dragonborn by the Greybeards. Did you do it?

Edit: just saw the dates... Catshannon, you necro.

What's the console command to start the quest? I was attacked by cultists early on, but put off Dragonborn 'til I was 30ish... now the quest isn't even there, even though I still have the cultist order notes and can travel to/from solstheim... I just can't ask anyone about Miraak.
