UPDATED AND FIXED Hawks don't die
I don't have any mods modifiying the behaviour of the Hawks in Skyrim, but for some reason they don't die any more. I wouldnt mind if my character was not so good at alchemy and the Hawks beak ingredient is really useful for making a fortify carry weight potion. Does any one else have the same difficulty?

I read somewhere else that sometimes killing hawks can cause an unkillable hawk to take the real hawks place. I have had this same issue. I had about 10 arrows hanging out of a hawk and it was still flying around looking really relaxed. Maybe try a different ingredient like River Betty? If you have the Morthal Hearthfire house you can breed them in the fishery. River Betty and Creep Cluster or River Betty and Scaly Pholiota shouldn't give negative side effects. Poisonbloom from Dawnguard will also fortify carry weight, but if mixed with River Betty you'll get a pretty toxic blend, combined with Creep Cluster or Scaly Pholiota, though you should be fine. Giant's Toe and Wisp Wrapping also fortify carry weight, but they are so rare that I don't tend to use them. Hopefully that's helpful. Sorry if I gave spoilers/taught my grandma to suck eggs.

Kill and loot Silver Hand members. Most of them carry hawk feathers.

@ frogprincess - No spoilers given don't worry. Already beaten the game once. I used to be able to kill then with a few arrows and enjoyed the practise for my archery. And yes, have Hearthfires installed so getting that house is not out of my reach. I also have Dawnguard. Using giant's toe and another 2 ingredients will give me fortify carry weight, fortify health, restore health and another effect. However, it's the beaks I am actually after right now and they are as rare as rocking horse tears. It's just as both Giant's toe and wisp wrappings tend to be quite rare, and used for other potions the hawks beak and feathers would give me better options for my alchemical mixes like cure disease. I use potions and poisons quite a bit for thing like killing giants, dealing with an onslaught of Forsworn. A good frenzy or paralysis is good for crowd control. And slow can be useful for things like giant camps. Got a good recipe using Hawks beak that gives me resist fire, frost and shock. My character uses a mixture of magical buffs and potion buffs and then posioned arrows.

If you have Hearthfire and you put the kitchen in one of your houses there is a recipe for garlic bread that weighs 0.1 and cures disease. Not that that cures the real issue!

@ frogprincess - :D that made me chuckle. Cure vampirism with garlic bread - GENIUS! No, you're right, but that does help me some. Just a shame cookery doesn't level any skils up.

Seen it noted on forums for xbox and PS3, so it's not a system problem it's an engine problem. I thought it might be me, but alas, no. I am not sure if the unofficial patch devs have got an idea about it yet. Think I'll email bethsoft support and see what they say. I'll just add it to the list of "this does/not happen in my game, any suggestions?"

Shameless self bump? Spoken to tech support at Bethesda and it appears that they are not aware of the apparent invulnerability of the hawks. The tech support guy thought it might be a deluberate action - although why I do not know. Upshot is the tech guy said he would pass it on, so there may be a patch to correct the issue. He also said that the guys at Bethesda sometimes view these boards so they may pick it up and address the issue.

UPDATE - - After a few emails to Bethesda support the hawks are now dying!!!!! EXCELLENT. Did have a strange bug at Lakeview Manor which caused dead hawks to spawn out of the flying hawks but at Solitude they now die! I am Hawk killer again. It appears that Beth support have had a word with the coders and now we can shoot the hawks and collect the ingredients as we should. THANKYOU BETHESDA

Nothing to do with me alone, I'm quite sure. Although it's nice to shoot hawks again.

?? TGM ?? Why was god mode a help I'm lost. Not like that's unusual but I'm wondering what you were up to Jarl?

I was up to nothing, nothing at all. Well, except for ballin'.
And I was implying that the hawks were tgm'ing to cheat you out of uncommon ingredients lol

:) now I understand. Only left side of brain working today, you'll have to excuse me. Yeah, dirty cheats! with my nerfed alchemy it's "fortify carry weight 125 for 300 secs" cheap as - well cheap as finding free stuff in a game world.
