Cant start Mjoll the Lioness's sword quest.
Well, i'm level 20, done a few quests for the people of Riften to get them to like me, i agreed with her when she talked about the thieves guild and still she wont give me the quest, i read somewhere that i had to get passed the Return the Horn of Jurgen (cant remember his second name) in the main quest line and i did but still no quest from Mjoll, really annoying as i want to have her as a companion, seeing as she cant die.

Anyone have any ideas or know of any changes that have happened to the requirements to start the quest. i have all 3 DLC's and i don't use mods. Any help would be grateful

You must be above level 14, and you have to be in good favor with her. The easiest way to do that is to agree with her that the Thieves Guild is bad. (Then you can join the Thieves Guild after you do the quest to get back Grimsever)

I have the almost same problem, sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. Haven't found out why.

yeah, says on the bottom of that page in the bugs section that the quest might never come up, oh well, will just continue on and try back every now and again in the hopes that i can get it

Super Wingsy, I've done all that and still same thing a number of times. Sometime she will sometimes she won't and I've read most of the other guides about Mjoll

Do not speak with Mjoll unless you are naked, above level 7 and have consumed at least 3 bottles of skooma. When she asks you what you think of the thieves guild, immediately kill Erin and at least 2 guards...this should give you the correct dialog options for aquisition of the desired quest. Or...you could just start up conversation with her occasionally, pay her some compliments, buy her dinner and flowers and see where it leads....

Try speaking to her brother. If you leave it she will eventually come round to telling you about how she lost her sword. Be careful of that centurion they can be really nasty, especially when they have the spiders, etc running around as well.

She can't die but she won't shut up either. I used her on a dungeon and sent her back home, she was getting on my nerves with her two family stories she won't stop telling you.

Yeah, I know your mom teached you to use a sword Mjoln. Do you mind, I'm trying to have a conversation here.

i posted this on another thread maybe it will help.

I had the same problem. Really, the whole "she has to like you" thing is a bit glitchy. If you helped out enough people and she is not acting like she hates you, all you need to do is level up. She won't give the quest until you are one level higher than you were the first time you spoke to her. see if that helps.

What happens if you have already joined the Thieves guild (because of the Stones of Barenziah) and she won't give you the quest? Do you have to just help out as many people around as you can?

My character was a meber of the guild, when Mjoll gave the quest. While my character is closer to swashbuckler than a thief, shen had been helping citizens a lot. She was already using "Hello friend. Good to see you again" greeting at the time.

There is one dialog option that you mention to her that she's not from around there.
Something to the effect that it opens up her dialog about being an adventurer/treasure hunter when she goes into about her losing Grimsever. Then your opportunity to retrieve the sword comes up.
That fella who hangs around with her is the one who saved her life when she lost her sword.
