Ebony Shields and Being a Vampire
I noticed something odd the other day. i own dawnguard and was playing the Soul Cairn pit and went to use my Ebony shield and it was not there. Even even after leaving the Soun Cairn it was not there. I noticed my character had become a vampire without me spotting it and so I went and got my self cured.

Next thing I know my Ebony shield was working again.

Has anybody else noticed this happening in their games ?

It's a bug.

Ebony Shields (13964) and all 16 variants, and Blades Shields (4F912) will now appear properly on Vampiric players of all races

Cool! I was having the same problem, I'm gonna try that patch as soon as I can.

Thanks good to know, I will not be using the unofficial patch though, I know the guy who made it and he is not that careful about testing stuff.

Yeah. The Dark Brotherhood quest line was stalled when I used that mod. I was unable to complete the quest for refitting the Dawnstar Sanctuary regardless of the console commands I used (I fiddled with it for hours, trying all combinations I could; I considered myself fairly well versed in the console command system before I stopped playing).

Tusk: Console commands break more quests than players realise, there is usually ton of code that is needed that gets skipped when you use a console command and that code can do literally anything from spawning your next quest NPC to ending the another quest. Using the console commands often stops that extra stuff from ever being run.

I'm aware. Considering I resorted to console commands to fix a bug introduced by the mod, there wasn't a whole heck of a lot I could lose.

Besides, I didn't make a habit of skipping ahead in questlines; it would sort of defeat the purpose of me continuing to play (I played largely for completionist OCD reasons).

As a result I am pretty darn sure I never introduced a sleeper bug based solely on that. And I am absolutely positive I didn't because the moment I uninstalled the mod in question I was able to complete the quest.

Turk: you do not have to skip a head to use a console command and break the quest your on, just randonly changing stuff in quests via the console is enough to totally mess up your game. Quests are like carefully built house of cards and console commands are like removing the odd card. I find when a quest stops working, its always best to revert to an older save rather than use console commands. It gives the quest a second chance to run. If it still fails, its your save game,. you might as well start again.

I guess I wasn't clear. The only way I messed with any quests on my first playthrough was by spawning quest items to complete a fetch quest; typically just herbs and generic collectibles and not anything serious like a Dragon Claw or Medalion Fragment (consulted the wiki a LOT looking for exactly what you're talking about).

And let me restate what I've already said: I was able to complete the quest as soon as I uninstalled the U.S.P. I know how to troubleshoot and the mod was the problem, not the saves (which I did revert back to in the process of troubleshooting).

Tusk I get you now, generic unscripted stuff is usually safe. I heard people had problems with dragon born and dragon souls because the USP edited a script that dragonborn also updated or something like that. There are a few other issues ive heard about but dont keep track off.

Unknown changes have been made to DragonActorScript.psc. The USKP removed debug statements from this, which is causing the result to be overridden. Until CK scripts for Dragonborn are released, the compiled copy from Dragonborn will be supplied with the UDBP. (Bug #11915)

Thanks for the info J6M

I personally have only seen one issue in Dragon Born other than the shield problem and that was with an semi transparant maarik in the final fight that proved immune to damage and forced me to reload my game. Not seen any other issues at all. Not even a single crash.

Mind you I know the script languages little quirks and how to avoid them.

sure wish they would fix this bug as the Ebony is my favorite armor and it ticks me off that I cant not use Vampire and get to use my shield....I tried going back and reloading a save to fix it but I guess this will not work as I gave it up after the 4th run.
Did save my werewolf and may have to go back and just play as wolf.
Thanks for info...and I guess not running Mods...as I have none will not make them fix my game. Not real happy with these folks.

Apparently you didn't read all the comments before you necro'd.

I saw nothing in the comments other than a unofficial fix by someone who has issues with thier mods and bug fix in the past....perhaps you can quote the info as that was all I saw.
