Is there a fix for a book-eating bookshelf? (Hearthfire, Dawnguard)

I have both Hearthfire and Dawnguard expansions, and recently some of my bookshelves in the Lakeview Manor player house have started to eat the books stored in some shelves. I don't have any addons that affect the insides of any player houses.

This doesn't happen in all bookshelves, only in some. In addition to this the bookshelf that eats the books has slowly increased the number of books it claims it can hold, even though it should be able to store only 11 books. At the moment it's displaying that it can store 25 books, and it does indeed take in 25 books when I try. However when I close the bookshelf window the shelf does the "arranging books" animation and then all the books vanish, and aren't in the shelf anymore if I reopen the window. This happens regardles of what I do: if I take books out, put books in, have the correct amount of books, less than 11, or too many (over 11) books in the shelf.

Showing the wrong storage amount doesn't however mean that the shelf will destroy books because I have other shelves in the same house that have changed the number of books they can hold to a larger number (e.g. one other shelf that's supposed to be able to hold 11 books has suddenly room for 13 and so on). However these shelves won't destroy the books I have placed in them, and they still contain the books when I look inside (however they display visually only 11 books when I look at the bookcase).

Is there any way to fix my bookshelves so that the number of books they can contain is the normal intended number, and that they won't make my books vanish?

A slight correction:

When I open the shelf that eats my books, all the books vanish and it claims there's room for 25 books (when it should fit only 11). When I look at the shelf before I open it, it shows all the books I have put in, and I can pick them all up individually, but if I open the actual bookshelf window, the books vanish.

Never had anything like Unlimited Bookshelves installed? It's strange that it's letting you put more than the vanilla amount. Usually the issue is fewer than vanilla.

Not entirely sure if this will help, but it's instructions for fixing broken bookshelves. They author is mainly addressing the issue where the bookshelves think they contain books that aren't there, but I believe reseting the counts might help you. Worth a try.

Note: you'll have to look up the shelf id's for Heathfire with the CK. Not that difficult though.

hm.. thats weird, ive never encountered that problem with hearthfire..

The same thing is happening to me, but im in the whiterun house. i have all the DLCs.

The Riften, Markarth and Solitude house bookcases all have this bug.

this bug is really frustrating, and seems to not have a fix.
