Dragonborn travel crash
When i try to travel to skyrim from the new Solstheim island my game freezes on the loading screen
i can load very old saves before i entered solstheim, and i had previously travelled between skyrim and Solstheim and back again just fine, but after completing the main dragonborn quest i can't leave without crashing
no-matter how i try to travel i just get a lockup on the loading screen
this is obviously a pretty serious flaw in a dlc that i otherwise love
can anyone suggest anything i may have missed?
tried:
`coc whiterun
fast travel
boat
completing side quests
loading earlier saves

i do have mods installed, so ill try disabling them but any suggestions are welcome

Do you have the new Unofficial Dragonborn Patch? It fixes a lot of bugs.

Unofficial Dragonborn Patch[skyrim.nexusmods.com]

I would look for the mod manager and check if mod order is following according to my need. Or i would suggest install Boss to help you.
Btw, did you install unofficial patch and newest FNIS?
If no, then it is good idea to go for it. It fix many issues in the game.

I personally use both NMM and BOSS for my game. One to install/uninstall mods, the other to place them in best order for optimal playability.

Never leave Riverwood without them! ;)

thanks for the tips, i prefer to install mods myself though so i know whaere they're going and what they're likely to effect i really mistrust any kind of installer program that dosent have a certificate, never hear of boss though i'll cheack that out shortly also, quick question in general what does load order effect? if a mod is loaded first does it have priority over other mods or the other way around?
i've put all the official patches and dragonborn at the top of the list, could that be the problem?

Simply put, if you have bad load order, it will crash your game randomly depending your mods loading order. Mod manager usually have the esm (master file) to be load first, and then load esp file. Just go to mod manager and click on plugin and you will see your list of mods that been install. If you look closely in each mod, it have indication about its requirement for certain file.
Anyway, here is a youtube link that explain a lot. I hope it help you

ok, so i tried reordering my mods according to the guide but that had no effect, same lockup on the travel load screen
so i uninstalled all my mods completely and made a new save
same effect, frozen on travel screen
ill give the unofficial patch a go, the mods seem to make no difference what so ever

Do you have Ethereal Elven Overhaul or Lore Based text loading screen mods?
Lugzan Feb 9, 2013 @ 12:02am
i do not have elven/lore loading screen mods and i uninstalled all my mods to make a fresh save to work from also the unofficial dragon-born patch also had no effect it still freezes on the travel to skyrim loading screen
to be clear, i can access and play the game aslong as i stay in Solstheim and fast travel works on the island

You can't make a clean save. It's impossible and eventually your save file can become so bloated or corrupted, there is no helping it.

my theory is isolate the cause and revert to a previous save and apply the fix to it
i just need to limit the possible factors from infinity to something manageable but i'm having trouble with that as-well..
i guess if it comes down to it i may have to create a new character

I know that feel, took me 3 days to get Dragonborn working. I couldn't figure out if it was my save or a mod conflict and I tried over and over possible ideas and found no solutions or help. Finally I turned everything off and turned back on a bunch of mods I knew wouldn't conflict and finally found 1 of 2 culprits.

Congratulations for being persistent and successful, I know I wouldn't have had the patience to not swear and curse for a bit before I did what you did, coolly and rationally without angst. :)

Trust me I used words I wouldn't say in front of my mother more than once, I'm just glad I found out what it was so I could play before I managed to level my new character up high enough and do stuff just to get there and find out I had the same problem.

That would have been a controller through a wall.
