Easy way to find the elder scroll?

I just started playing skyrim again, and I want to do the dawnguard quest chain, but for the love of God I do not want to go all the way to the Dragon Elder scroll, I know there are elevators that can take me down but I can't remeber where they are, can someone help me on this?
And no I can't cheat (I'm a dirty console user)

yeah when I last played through dawnguard the whole dragon scroll thing pissed me off, it was kind of a stupid idea to put in the dlc. But no there isnt an easy way to get it (although i did hear of a clipping glitch at the tower of mzark using either the arvak spell or a plate to get through the gate) that might be on one of the wikis
