Cheating in a solo game
Me and the girlfriend where having a debate so im calling on my fellow gamers to help us decide. She thinks that there is such thing as cheating in a game like skyrim. Such as god mode or mods that add things to the game in your extreme favor. While I (i do have a few mods such as smithing supplies turn on) think that in a solo game there is no such thing as cheating because no one other than player is affected. Your guys thoughts?

the way I see it using cheats means your only cheating yourself out of the fun of working hard to beat the game fairly it's only worth while to do for another play through after you beat the game that and if your making your own mods and want to test them other then that in a solo game as a I said it's only yourself your cheating so only something I can recommend after already finishing the game the old fashioned hard work way
If we define cheating as doing things in your game to give you an advantade that the game mechanic did not suppose to happen (ex. TGM, download G0D SW0RD OF ÜB3RPWN-mod, etc) then yes, your girlfriend is right. It's cheating.
The only effect of the cheating is however a bad game experience for yourself.

Why would it not be cheating?

While it doesn't effect anybody else, it's still cheating by definition. You're doing something that wasn't intended, or using something that shouldn't be there.
Like people have said, it's cheating by definition. Personally, I'm fine with it, I just feel massive amounts of guilt (even in things like GTA IV) - but, if you do cheat, I don't think you should be allowed to compare it to any other person's game
Damn i guess you guys are right. My logic was that adding mods and stuff wasnt giving my self an unfair advantage over another human controlled player so it wasnt cheating. I never considered that it took away from the experience of the game. Thanks for the input and thanks (sarcasim) for siding with my girl :-p
Like i said i use the smithing supplies mod and i had the lock picking mod but i took that one off. Maybe ill get rid of smithing too. I want the full experience.

well they do have bigger brains then us (science says so and they do say behind every great man is a women pulling his strings)
The definition of the word "cheating" is: to take unfair advantages against other people. Now the "against other people" part of the definition does not apply in a single player game with no competition at all between players (there aren't even leaderbords or something like that).

The only point of a game like Skyrim is having fun, and if someone has fun instakilling all the world in god mode, that is very legitimate.

Also note that supporting mods and leaving a console accessible to players are clear acts on how the developers themselves consider the matter.

This beeing said, truth is that girls are always right (i know the matter) so just discard and trash everything i just wrote

Do what ever you find fun in a single player game. Its not for anyone else to tell you what you find fun or not :)
I only use two "cheats" myself, the levelers tower is useful for testing builds and or "God I screwed this char up but don't really want to start from lvl1". And of course Lock Pick Pro simply because there are some characters I -really- don't want to bother with LP. Shame you have to give up the skeleton key though.
Once I learned the commands to spawn items I lost a lot of enjoyment in the game. Now that I have forgotten all console commands except TCL which I use in case of bugs I find the game enjoyable again.
Damn it,i use many mods for landscape and weather but the only weapon mod i use is lord of the rings weapon pack, but now i feel like im cheating for doing so lol
the quicker you learn that than women are always right, the better your life will be.
