Was The Defeat of Alduin Awesome?
I was disappointed that you couldn't search alduin or absorb his soul.

Thats why I think there will be a future DLC...where we have to battle him again, possibly going back in time, prior to the ancient nords using the elder scroll to cast him adrift.

There are lore reasons that you couldn't search him or absorb his soul, but the fight itself was a bit of a let-down imho.

That would be cool!

It was a pretty anti-climactic. It felt exactly like any other dragon fight. I'd have prefered something similar to Dagon's defeat in Oblivion; a cinematic would have been better than him just being another dragon. They really dropped the ball on that.

I thought the animation was quite impressive and Arngeir explains that Alduin's soul travels through the timelines once again (or something like that, I play the game in german).
He's neither gone nor a threat for the world. At least not for now.
Either he'll return in a DLC or in another TES game.

^^^^
The problem is the entire bossfight was just a normal fight you'd have with any other dragon. This is the WORLD EATER you're fighting, yet the only special thing about his encounter is that he explodes at the end of it. They could have done so much more. The only part of the encounter that impressed me was Sovengarde itself, it was a damn beautiful area.

I forgot about that. Thanks.

The final battle only bothered me for the esthetic reasons. I've subscribed to two mods that make him Bigger (Alduin the World-Eater) and Stronger (Harder Alduin), but what would REALLY complete the battle is a 100%-chance, unique kill animation that leaves you SO SATISFIED!

But unfortunately, beggers can't be chosers...

What are those mods called?

Yeah, the fight was disappointing but the area you go to (Sovngarde) was awesome. I forgot what Arngeir said about not being able to absorb his soul; something like how it might mean he was going to come back and fulfill the prophecy of him destroying the world.

Surprised that that was the reason it was a let down for you. The whole fight was, and the build-up towards that fight. I actually found it a chore to try and go through the final part of the Main Quest line

The only reason the fight was disappointing was because the Dragonborn has the Dragonrend Shout - the only thing Alduin is vulnerable to - without that, he's utterly invunerable and unbeatable. However, when he's effected by it, it's easy to defeat him because the word makes him weak and disoriented (the Dragonrend works exactly as advertised!)- of course he's easy to defeat at that point - however, I don't think he's permanently defeated. The special effects when you kill him are pretty cool, though - I like the big explosion and all!

Alduin is just short of a true aspect of Akatosh. It would seem to me the Dragonborn would not be able to absorb the power of an Aedra unless given to him/her directly. That or the simple fact that he works like a Deadra and his sould returns to Akatosh himself and his "pull" is clearly a stronger one

Actually you can search him, but it's a last sec thing. like as soon as he dies you have to click the search button, or the option does appear/the body loot list doesn't appear. as for his soul im happy you couldn't cause it's said that Alduin is a aspect of Aktosh.

the only thing i find annoying/let downing about Alduin is his size, i picture him the size of deathwing for example, but what we got was some normal size dragon with a diffrent skin and a little tougher to kill.
