Yes. You will find giants, bandits, wolves even had a couple of daugr attack when arriving at the house. That's what you get for building a house in the wilds. This is normal.

I was not aware of this when I built my house in Faulk... He is right at my front door and me and Lydia have not been able to kill him. If I do does he re-spawn?

Attack from a distance making sure Lydia has decent weapons and armour as she will just charge in. You attack from a distance using conjurgation spells and bows/arrows with poison.
It's possible he may respawn, but your more likely to get something different next time.

Where is the housecarl that should have been allocated to this house by the Thane? You could also make someone else a steward of this house giving extra manpower to protect it.

Happens all the time - might be a good idea to make your steward (and other residents who might like to fight) essential using the console - I got tired of my steward getting killed by giants!

Appearently not - I had Roggi Knot-Beard as my Steward, and the giant killed him - he didn't go flying into the air or anything, he was just dead!

Darkfiro - no it wasn't me - I had just fast traveled to the Pale house, suddenly I saw the children (Sofie and Hroar) disappear into the house - which caused me to be puzzled and not act for a couple seconds, then after that I looked to the left, and before I could even act, the giant hit and killed Roggi just as Onmund (my follower) left my character's side to the fight the giant, and Gregor was running down the hill from the southwest also to engage in combat with the giant. The giant only lasted a few seconds after the three of us started attacking, but it was too late help poor Roggi!

Ok - I just went to UESPwiki, and looked at the list of stewards - some stewards are protected, and some aren't. Roggi, unfortunately, was one of the ones who was not!

I think I've seen one giant show up at one of my houses. Wolves attacked my chickens at Heljarchen all the damn time.

That's why you should have the option to hire 4-6 guards and be able to spend gold to train and outfit them to make them competent at protecting your house. That way everytime you go back to the place you don't have to worry about defending your spouses etc all the time which can get annoying.

The view is nice, the neighbors aren't. Hire some guards and other staff members. I haven't had any dragons attack me at home as yet.
