Where do soul gems come from?
Today I had an epiphinay, I have no idea where soul gems come from. Yes, they can be mined in geode vein within Blackreach but, you may notice that no one ever goes there and before Skyrim the idea is never even brought up. Merchants seem to have no trouble getting a hold of them and selling them at rather low prices considering their power.

So, I'll ask: Is there some way to conjure/ transmute soul gems or are there just tons of soul gem mines that the player isn't aloud to access?

If daddy is a Daedric Prince and mommy is a rock? Pretty much this.

Molag Bal created the first ones, I think, he is Father of the Soulgem, Harvester of Souls (and rapist creator of the Vampires - busy, evil dude). They are supposed to occur naturally, but I don't think the geodes have ever appeared before in the games. Could be wrong about that.

There isn't a ton of lore about them (that I've seen anyway). Tried to find more after Dawnguard myself.

I'm kind of suprised that information on soul gems isn't more prevalent considering how common and useful they are compared to how odd they are: captureing the soul of liveing things and evaporateing when used.

soul gems look like crystals ,its through magic -some kind of bethesda voodoo that souls get trapped and thus a "soul gem " is created to power your weapons of stabby bone freezing burning , healing delight

It gets lonely as a daedric lord, and colovian brandy will do crazy things to your head. This is only exacerbated by the fact that when you live in a realm of existence where your only companions are dead trees and bedrock... you have get creative. This was of course before he had the idea to host vampire orgies...

I know what a soul gem is. I just wanted to know if there is any true lore background to the propogation of soul gems throughout Tamriel. I know Blackreach contains geode veins but what it doesn't contain are people mining the soul gems. I have to believe it was some sort of Daedric deal, probably Molag Bal god of slavery, but why would a Daedric prince give the mortals such a fantastic gift? Unless all captured souls are actually just given as a sacrifice for power, and if thats the case why is everyone okay with this?

In TES online its revealed the souls of those mortals traped in black soul gems are indeed sent to molag baal's realm, well sort of..the soul remains in the gem but somehow a 'husk' a mind deprived of soul appears in his realm...i don't think they realy explain it but basicly the person turns into a deadra, as evidenced by the fact your character in the game can when killed do what deadra do, dematerialize and reform at certain points in the world, you can however do it much faster then a deadra cause mundis is far more stable then oblivion, easier to find your way back.
as to how theey come to be, depends on the type the gems used in morrowind were artifical i think, hence there more asteticly pleaseing shapes, the ones used in cyrodil and skyrim however are rock like, natural.....they are considered valuable due to there use and anoying because they break when used...all but one...azura's star...good luck geting her to tell you how that works though
