I can't play in full screen
Ever since I uninstalled Skyrim due to a mod on the workshop being permanent, I've been having issues playing in full screen. I removed all files of Skyrim including my saves and reinstalled it. Now, there is a boarder around the game when I play it and a bar on the top, almost like it's in a windowed mode at full screen. I play on a TV through a VGA and my PC isn't hooked up to any other monitor. I will attach a link to a picture I took of the problem. When I take a screen shot in game it doesn't show the bars going around, and print screen simply doesn't work, so that's why I took the photo with a camera.

I've tried:

Making sure windowed mode is not selected
Went into the SkyrimPref.ini file and entered 1 at the end of "b full screen:1"
Changed the H and W in the .ini file to my desktop resolution
Hit Alt+Enter in game
Alt+Tab
Updated all drivers
A mod on Nexus does fix this called Boarderless Window, but then you have to play with a taskbar which defeats the purpose

At this point I'm guessing there's not much else I can do, as every other game works perfectly fine. I'm aware this isn't a game breaking problem, but a nuisance to me nonetheless. Thank you for any help in advance, I appreciate it.

At the skyrim menu window, when starting skyrim from the skyrim link and not skse, you click options and uncheck windowed mode. If you still aren't getting fullscreen, you need to turn on scaling at your graphics card settings.

I already have the windowed mode unchecked. And I'll try looking for scaling options on my card settings. Thanks for the response.

the scaling setting might be in the part of your video card menu that covers displays.

What exactly would I have to change? I haven't changed any settings and it displayed correctly before I uninstalled/reinstalled it.

If you aren't running at your full screen resolution and your graphics card or monitor doesn't scale the image it will be displayed in it's actual pixel size. Scaling is the setting that tells the gpu to make things that are lower res than the screen display on the whole screen. Run Skyrim at whatever your screen resolution is and see if it's full screen. What type of graphics card do you have? maybe I can guide you to the menu.

AMD Radeon HD 6770. I'm on Windows 8 64x also.
Thanks for your time, by the way.

I don't see any scaling options at all in the AMD settings.

Oh, windows 8...not sure about windows 8 support yet. but, to change scaling settings, go into the ATI menu, click on "Desktops and displays." At the bottom is an icon of your screen, left click on it and click configure. check enable gpu scaling and scale image to full panel size under the first tab in that menu.

There are no scaling options in the AMD control center. However I've played at full screen before so I know it's possible.

The scaling options are buried. You have to set them up for each individual display. It might help you to go to the AMD website and do a search for scaling options.

I failed to notice the VGA part of your initial post. That could be your problem. You don't have an hdmi or dvi output?
Jake Jan 1, 2013 @ 1:27pm
Ah, I read more online and found out the scaling options aren't there if you're using a VGA cable. Guess I have to go out and buy a DVI, since the HDMI one won't display my desktop for some reason. I have a laptop that works fine when plugged into the TV through HDMI, though. Thanks for the help man, I apperciate your time.

Actually, I just put an HDMI cable in again and surprisingly got it to work. Before I would lose video as soon as the log in screen came up. Just my luck that the screen looks terribly blurry with HDMI for some odd reason, gonna play with some settings now. And there is a scaling option now that the HDMI is in. However, I'd rather not play full screen than play full screen with the blurry HDMI picture I'm getting.

It's blurry because the game is at a much lower res than the display. Is windows blurry too? If so, raise the windows res. With a 6770, you should be able to run the game at at least 1440x900 with antialiasing off if it's a laptop. If it's a desktop, the 6770 should be able to run skyrim at 1080p.

It's a desktop. Everything is blurry and test is jagged and hard to read. Not just in games, but all the time. I went through every resolution and even tried using AMD control center to set it to 720p. No matter what, it was was blurry with jagged text and VGA everything is crystal clear in comparison.

I tried using HDMI with another TV, but I lose video after it boots up and gets to the login screen. Trying another TV with VGA and the problem still exist.
