The game practically funnels you to where you need to go and whoever you follow tells you to go to them to get your binds undone.
I've tried using the use key, no effect. So I queried this key not working withSkyrim Suppport and got this reply " Please note, you will not be able to talk to anyone during the Dragon attack. You will need to follow the other people, and when you reach the tower, the person you have followed will cut the robes from your hands". But that person doesn't untie the bonds! So what next? Getting very frustrated. Any help, please. I would add that my Quest arrow rests upon the man to the right of the door, so he is the right person?

Once you get inside the castle you get them un tied you have to be tied during the dragon attack
But when inside the tower (castle?) I am not untied.
Ralof(if you fallow Stromcloaks) or Hadvar(if you follow Impirial) will tell you, when you are inside Helgen Keep, to stand closer to them and then they will untie your hands. In another words: when appearing inside the keep you will be tied in the begining and will get intied in 40 seconds.
Not sure I understand your problem... here, let's try this:

Right when the dragon attacks, Ralof (the Stormcloak dude in blue that spoke to you on the cart ride) wants you to follow him to a tower. Follow him. Once inside the tower, Ralof will have you follow him up to the top of the tower, at which point Alduin busts his ugly face in and ruins a couple of people.

When Alduin's done stuffing his face in there, Ralof tells you to jump through the roof of the inn (which you'll see through the hole in the wall courtesy of Alduin). Do that, and get down to ground level and out of the inn where you'll see the Imperial guy named Hadvar shouting for some kid right before Alduin comes down AGAIN and squashes some other guy.

Hadvar will be all "Still alive, prisoner? Stick close to me if you wanna stay that way". Follow him through Helgen; at some point General Tullius will yell "Into the Keep, we're leaving!" so keep following Hadvar until you see Ralof.

When Hadvar and Ralof start arguing, at that point you have the choice of which one to follow - you can go with either one of them, and one is no more "right" or "wrong" than the other.

So pick one and follow them into the Keep, where whoever you followed will unbind your wrists after a bit of dialogue and then tell you to find some gear in a chest.

Your hands will not be unbound until you enter Helgen Keep with either Ralof or Hadvar. If you have entered the Keep itself (going through all the junk I just listed, and the game will tell you when you have) and they still won't unbind your wrists... then something is totally messed up.

Good luck!
Thanks. Will try that.
worked perfectly! Thanks again
*facepalm*
I think there is a bug here. I just started playing and had the same problem. I reloaded it from the saved character creation spot, and this time, the dragon knocked a hole in the wall I could jump through. The first time, the dragon never did that.
My game bugged out and Hadvar/Ralof didnt even enter the keep so i had to go through the entire Tutorial loading crap again. I had to do that 5 times so that i could start with the character i wanted. Stupid Hadvar/Ralof.
i have the same problem but it happens when i change race. Now my hands are stuck in this stupid position like i have to pee.

You have the Unbound achievement, so no, you do not have the same problem. You should create your own thread instead of bumping years-old ones.
Thanks for the advice.
I'm dieing here. LOL
