Hey guys, i just bought this game the other day and when i was installing it, it was at 99% done and then it all of a sudden said update paused. So i tried to start it again but it still says update paused. And when i try to click play, it says there was a disc read error. Now im not to good with computers so i have no idea what this means. can anyone help?

This propably means Steam encountered a serious error while reading/writing game content data, and it could be serious.

Are we talking about a mechanical drive.SATAII,SATAIII, is iit configured as AHCI,or do you have an SSD disc? What version of Windows are you running?Has this happened any other time when trying to install software or games physically-disc- or through the internet?

Does anything else (other software) have problems loading?

.. How big is your harddrive and how much free space is left??

this is the second game ive tried to download. the first one is working fine. im running windows 7 home premium and the laptops not even a week old

on the bottom of the steam window, it says "# files downloading". click on that and you'll get the status of your install/download. Maybe clicking resume will make it work...then again maybe not, but it's worth a try.

How big is your harddrive and how much free space do you have?

I've seen people 'hog wild' and suddenly found themsleves out of HD space.

Because if that is not the problem - then:

a. Skyrim needs to be re-install from scractch ...
b. your harddrive has a problem....

the laptop came with 750 gigs of harddrive space and ive only downloaded minecraft and csgo so space shouldnt be a problem

Then ... the program likely got corrupted when installing .. So remove Steam & Skyrim and re-install.

Hopefully that is the problem and you did not just find you have a bad harddrive.

its not the hard drive, i started downloading skyrim and i got this rror so i downloaded cs go instead and that works fine. So i should just delete and reinstall steam?

I would -- so Skyrim did NOT finish dowloading and thus you do not show it as loaded on your computer? <- Question. Because if you have an ICON on your desktop for Skyrim. Then it is seen as installed. If not than okay.... :)
Sea Bass™ 23 DIC 2012 a las 12:04
there is no icon on my desktop. it was at 99% and just as i was about to go to 100 it said paused. then whenever i said resume updating, it said update suspended and then pdate paused.

okay - then re do steam and than try skyrim again - if you have a good disk defrag program that came with your LT .. I would use that before you start. IE: DISKKEEPER 2011/2012 is one I recommend and sometimes comes as a 'freebee' trial basis.

i dont think i have a disk defrager. do i need it if i dont have a disk?
jjb-54 23 DIC 2012 a las 12:17

At 750 GB, that would be one hell of an ssd. Windows has a defrag program included. It's under accessories/system tools. I think by not having a disc, he meant he doesn't have a skyrim disc.
