Can't Adopt

Hey folks, hoping someone can help. I want to adopt the blonde kid in the Honorhall Orphanage. I've gone ahead and taken the quest to kill Grelod, because I can't see any way around the fact that she won't allow any adoptions. The problem is that once I kill her, Constance Michel won't shut up and calm down. I've waited like 5 in game days and she's still running around like a crazy person. I have no other adoption issues. I already adopted one kid, so I have room and all that. I just can't get her to calm down. I killed Grelod behind closed doors, while sneaking, so I wasn't observed. I don't know what to do.

Only way I got her to stop was using the console commands. I used setreletionshiprank player 4 and left the area for a bit. I was than able to adopt a child that way. Hope this helps you.

You could try using a calm spell on her. Or try just talking to the kid you want to adopt - see if you get the dialogue for it with them.

Thanks for the replies, but I don't have enough magica to cast Calm, and the console command didn't work. I used it, waited a day and came back, nothing.

did you do that as part of the dark brotherhood quest?? i dont own Hearthfire but well maybe thats the issue idk? If so try advancing the quest untill you wake up in the abondened shak then kill astrid or any of the hostages what ever you like. Anyways as i said i dont own hearth fire

UPDATE: Found the solution. Turns out that you have to return to Aventus Aratino and tell him Grelod is dead. Upon your return to the orphanage Constance is fine.

In my game she still continued to run away from me even after finishing the mission with Aventus Aratino. Guess my game glitched on me so nothing new when it comes to skyrim or any bethesda game.

I also have this problem, exept constance keeps complaing about grelod being dead, even though i reported back to aventus, killed the brotherhood, and used everything above, like the spell and the comand

Go to the other side of the map and wait 11 in game days, the orphanage should respawn. If this does not work start your own thread rather use this really old one.

I also have a problem where I can't talk to Constance, she congratulates me on my weeding, that has happened a long time ago. I have completed the main quest though.
