I use the LOGITECH controller and it is a WHOLE lot cheaper then the XBox compatible and I have had friends burn through the XB controllers quicker than I do my Logitech.
An Xbox 360 controller works perfectly with Skyrim, I play 99% of my game with mouse and keyboard and love it but Skyrim's keyboard and mouse controls just aren't for me. I use a normal Xbox 360 controller like you get with the Xbox console and I have a wireless receiver, not exaclty the cheapest route but I had them by chance, (bought a microsfot wireless mic and the reciever for it worked with the controller too). I'm not sure what jjb-54 is talking about when it comes to burning thorugh controllers as I ahve been using this one for a couple or more years now no problem, but yeah a Logitech controller should work just fine too. Have fun!

You have to realize that this game was very obviously built from the ground up with the Xbox in mind. Of course it's controller compatible.
I've used the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows[www.amazon.com] with Skyrim on my computer running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 from the beginning and have never had a problem.

Wait! That's not entirely true. When firing a bow, I have a tendency to let the right trigger snap forward which has, upon occasion, jarred the battery compartment enough so that the controller loses power. So every now and then I have to scramble to restore communications between controller and receiver before being slaughtered by an angry Draugr deathlord or roaming dragon.

is a PS3 controller with DS3 tool compatable with this?

The thing is Logitech is 1/2 the cost of a XB360 and works just fine - in fact some XB360 users were a little surprised at how nice they are. NO - I do not have any interest $$ wise in Logitech. Just like the controller and like not having to pay big bucks because of a NAME ONLY.

There is direct support for the Windows Xbox Controller (Not the same as an Xbox controller, although you can use hacks to allow use of a regular Xbox controller on the computer). I am not aware whether or not there are native support for other controllers; but you could easily set up a profile to ue it with Skyrim.

Xbox 360 wireless controller plus a cheap usb wireless receiver from ebay and you never have to use a mouse on that nasty menu system again.

I'm interested in how you got this to work. I had a old Logitech Rumble 2 controller (Wired) that wouldn't work with skyrim at all though it would work within the configuration program for it (I don't currently have any other games installed to test it out on since I bought this PC to convert over from the ps3 crowd) and it would not work within skyrim at all. So I went out and got a new Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710 and I'm getting the same reuslts.

I have the settings in the game as basically default, cept moving up the sensitivity for the mouse and the changing the brightness scale, and I have the xbox360 controller option turned on. Is there something that I'm being too dense to see? Any help would be appreciated.

I just have a simple Logitec controler that hooks up to USB .. I don't need the bells and whistles as I find they are more annoying to my game play .. having it viberate just does not add to the game to me. It is simple, straight forward and works and is 1/2 the Price of the Xbox controler.

IM/PM me if you want more details ... Jj ...

I thank you for the offer of help, however I did figure out what the problem was... While I was experimenting with Borderlands I was messing the with the logitech profiler software and caused it to crash, read an different thread about steam games wanting it to be "Xinput" so I switched the controller to that setting and tried both games. And it fixed the problem, basically the logitech software that installs when you install the gamepad drivers from disc caused the whole problem I was having.

So for other people trying to get logitech gamepads to work, turn off the logitech profiler software and if wireless switch the controler to "Xinput" setting.
