If I start playing Skyrim on a new computer, will I be able to pick up where I left off?
My current computer is is a bit slow, and I plan on buying a new and faster computer in the near future. What I want to know is if I'll lose all of my saved progress if I start playing on a new computer.

Save your game - I even think STEAM will let you "back up" to their cloud server - but confirm this.

What I was told is yes - provided all MODS and everything are loaded as well.

Now not having tried this - I can only go on "say so" but the people I asked, are people that I trust to be straight.

You can find all of your Skyrim saves here.

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

Just make sure that you copy these over to your new computer and you can continue from where you were

on your new pc you will have to download steam again, then sign in with your account, then download Skyrim again. this loads your saves, your dlc and your workshop mods all back to what they were, except for Nexus mods. For those you'd have to be a premium member so you get the dl history, then redownload them after Steam and Skyrim. eezy-peezy!

yes, do back up the game first. but no need to copy your save files to your new pc unless your starting from a different account. Once you reload steam and sign in with your account, you will have to download skyrim again from your library and it will automatically load your saves. if you copy them it will create a redundancy and unnecessarily use twice the RAM.

I bought a new PC recently and reinstalled Skyrim and all my saves, dlc, and mods were there. (mods had to be reinstalled of course)
It saves on the steam database, So as long as you login using your credentials From the steam account you where using when playing skyrim, It will be fine.

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves
This is bad advice, not everyone has Windows 6.x systems and so specifying a literal filepath will not work for all.

For users using the default Windows location for their "My documents" folder:

%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves
for Windows 5.x (i.e NT, 2000 or XP)

and

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves
for Windows 6.x (i.e. Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8)

For users that have re-located the profile "Documents" shell folder path(s), then this can be found by running
regedt32 (for 32-bit systems)
or
regedit (for 64-bit systems)
and locating the registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

The value for the documents folder is given as "Personal"

_____________

Copy the contents of the Skyrtim folder to the equivalent location on your new PC to ensure the state of your saved games.

There is NO CLOUD SERVICE TO SYNCHRONISE YOUR PROGRESS THROUGH THE GAME in Skyrim, however configuration options and key bindings are synchronised across the Steam cloud.

@Moon Pie & Ink: Again, NONE of that file copying is remotely necessary. Listen, this happened to me: my pc was completely destroyed in an accident. unexpectedly, so had no recent back-up and no way to copy files. got a new pc, logged on, downloaded steam, signed in with my user account, downloaded Skyrim and there it was... my game, all the saves, all the mods, all as it was. So if steam cloud doesnt synch your saves, then it musta been magic. In fact, the only thing it doesnt synch is your in-game config options, so the opposite of what you said is true. Cant argue with experience.
