what should shields really block? part mod request/part rant

i have always wondered, why cant shields block arrows and magic by default? there is 1 magic blocking shield and not a single arrow blocking shield. shouldn't they always block both of thiese things aswell as melee attacks? i mean come on. arrows don't fly through shields in real life and i would think that if magic was real it couldnt phase through shields iether. i can understand that they might not wand to make every shield block magic because of the lore of the spell breaker, but come on. you have to admit, it doesnt make any sence that they can only block melee attacks. atleast make it so that evry shield can block a dragon shout and arrows. this has always pissed me off becuase it just doesnt make any sense and frankly, it just breaks the immersion. if some one is willing to make a mod where all shields block magic 50% and arrows 100% and the spelllbreaker blocks mgic 100% and arrows 100% that would be awesome. not only that, you would also be making a much needed patch. i hope you guys agree with me and i hope that one of you guys decides to make this a mod.

Click Tab in game scroll to Archery, Look up i the archery tree. There is a perk there for blocking arrows, also one for blocking some of magic effects. As for getting several perks on one shield, you can at 100% in Enchanting.

btw, while we're being realistic and all: arrows DO penetrate shields, unless you had 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ centimeters of an iron chunk as a shield. bows & arrows have more force than you might have guessed.

thats a given, but they cant go straight through 3 inches of metal. maybe the hide shield and guard shields, and the iron (not iron plate) and steel shields would be a bit of a stretch. but every other one, no way. we arent talking about a solothurn variant here. even if it had enough force, all of the arrows in skyrim have wooden shafts. they would buckle from the shock of the resistance. now if it had a metal shaft, that is something for an entirely different conversation. but skyrim arrows wouldnt be able to go through metal of any sort when it comes to armor.

I would love to see whoever can shoot an arrow through even 3 centimeters of iron... That would require a lot of strength and a good bow with arrow made specifically to pierce thick armour. Real plate armour isn't half that thick btw.

O.K after a little digging around plate armour thickest plate is only around 3mm of steel. 1 centimeter is already overkill.

the only stuff that should negate arrow damage is something like dragon scale armor, or anything else built that way with scales overlapping and stuff. it's not that they're sturdier or something, but the arrows can 'slip off' off them, like they do on those samurai armors.

well seeing how plate armor has no straight edges, lealy seen on the steel plate armor, it all curves away. so that would be even better at it than scales. come to think of it, almost all armor in skyrim is iether curved away or scaled. in real life, arrows would only be able to damage those wearing cloth/leather/fur armor. any metal based armors would be impenetrable.

I have an ebony sheild, arrows stick out of it and bounce off but some get through to, can,t cover all the body.

i know that, but i mean when you start out, nomatter what, you'll get hit by the arrow.
