Ref ID vs Base ID and Prid
Need help understanding this because I have a companion that frequently vanishes - not that I really care. What I do care about is that I had the character decked out in great equipment and then they vanish. I use the help "name of character" 4 to find its number but then when I use:
player.placeatme #
I get the unmodified character.
I can't even figure out how PRID figures in.
If someone can help me with this and tell me how to find my moded companions # and summon her back, I'd be very greatful.
Thanks

Excellent question.

Here you go:

BaseID is the ID of the default entry in the editor. If you place an item via its BaseID, you will always get the default, unmodified item.

RefID is the ID that is given to each and every object in the world. For instance. If you have 2 Jarl Balgruufs, they share same BaseID, but have 2 different RefID. Just like every floor and wall tiles, etc.

PRID selects an object from its RefID.

It is not easy to find RefID for something that you do not have on your screen...
When I needed to find RefID for a vanilla follower, I just went to Skyrim Wiki and it was there.

Once you have the RefID, use PRID <ID> to select it.

Then you can use "moveto player" to teleport the companion to you.
If nothing happens, write "Enable".

Thanks. I've not had a lot of luck using the RefID or even finding it for some things. For instance I have horse and I have its Base ID but don't know how to find its RefID.
And when I do HELP TROLL what number and I given Ref or Base? Sometimes I use the place at me command and never get what I expect. I'm no doubt doing something wrong but trying to muddle my way through the best I can.
Thanks for the reply.

The placeatme command creates another separate instance of the same object with the given base ID. That is why using it makes your follower appear without the equipment you want: what has appeared is a CLONE of your follower with its original equipment and your follower still has the equipment you gave them... wherever they are.

You have to look it up on the Wiki or click on them directly with the console open

And when I do HELP TROLL what number and I given Ref or Base?

That'll be the base

Sometimes I use the place at me command and never get what I expect.

Thats because you have a clone or duplicate created.

Basically if you want to move an existing object you'll have to look it up online or click on it.. Using "Help <object> is only really useful if you want to make npc's Essential or not.
